Interesting data

NHL-30 teams with bottom 18 within 5 pts,

It's 5pts between "basement" to playoffs in both conferences.

Just sayin

Gotta love the 3 point game.

A message needs to be sent to this team. That type of play such as "Girgensons" is unacceptable. He should be made an example of by being traded or sent down to Roch!

I like the rochester option

so what if he gets claimed

It is amazing what has happened to Ennis the past two years.

It's a decline unlike one I can remember for what had been an effective player.

According to Disco Dan Lehner is lobbying to be the backup tomorrow. Hopefully this hip injury doesn't linger around.

Eichel misses 20 games, comes back gets 2 points and now he's slow and looks out of shape and is not elite.Only on this blog would people say that, just like last night. 29 teams would love to have Eichel.

it was the sens

do it vs a real team

all jokes aside, before Tuesday, the sabres scored 3 goals once in November, they scored 3 in the first 20 minutes vs the sens

And that was only because the Flames took like 18 penalties in a row.

Jesus Christ come on.
4 pts out of playoffs.
Took the season series from the team that's 3rd overall in the conference.

I know, you're 40 years old and blah, blah blah Bills, Blah blah blah Sabres.

Well guess what, this is the year to break out of your rut. We're going to be good

So I've been thinking about UFAs

Thoughts on Karl Alzner?
He's a LH shot, 6'2 & 214lbs. (good size), and he'll turn 29 just before the start of next season (so his age is a good fit too).

I've always liked him as a player,
but I can't say I've watched him all that closely
I think he could be a good partner for 55
He's more of a stay-at-home guy,
which would free up Risto carry the puck up the ice more
And I'm loving that part of Risto's game, especially lately

Here's Alzner's scouting report from Hockey News:

ASSETS:
Is at his best when used (a lot) in a shutdown role. Has good size, mobility and the ability to limit the damage from the back end. He can log huge minutes with relative ease and is strong with the puck in his own zone.

FLAWS:
Needs to make better use of his 6-2, 214-pound frame in order to keep elite NHL forwards more honest. Must also continue to work on his shot from the point, as he's a limited offensive player at the highest level.

CAREER POTENTIAL:
Big-minute, shutdown defenseman.

He really seems like a great fit to me
Probably cost us about 6mil per though
But with Franson coming off the books & then Gorges after next season,
We should be ok paying that

I'm interested to see how Kulikov finishes out the season when he comes back, but so far I feel like the Hockey News has described him pretty well

ASSETS:Has good two-way instincts and a big shot from the point. Is an outstanding, well-rounded skater with excellent mobility. Likes to aggressively jump in and partake in the offensive side of things. Can log a ton of minutes.

FLAWS:Is lacking in the small nuances of the National Hockey League game, so he needs to keep minimizing his defensive-zone mistakes and utilize his body more effectively to make more of a defensive impact. Injuries are a factor.

CAREER POTENTIAL:Talented, inconsistent defenseman, when healthy.

IF we can get Alzner (or someone else to play with Risto)...
do we want Kulikov as our 2nd pair LH defenseman?
Or should that be McCabe?
With McCabe being signed so cheap, we can afford both. At least for now.
And that would obviously give us some nice depth on the BlueLine

But like I said...
I wanna see how Kulikov finishes out the season,
to see if he's really the "right" guy

Hes a better kulikov. Not someone id take to solve the top pair issue and pay 6 mil to though. They need to add someone who can really push the play 5v5. Nobody in this FA class outside of Shattenkirk can really do that.

I liked Kuli in the very short time he's played and I sense a lot of folks don't think he'll be here long term...and I can't see why (other than fargin injuries). I like the point about getting a solid shutdown guy next to 55 but I also think a healthy Kuli can fill that role, just in a different way.

On the other hand if Jake keeps progressing and looks solid on the top pair some day soon, Kuli would be an excellent #3 imo.

i think over the course of the same number of games Lehner would have the better stats.. Nilsson has looked good at times but then there was the way he looked tuesday. I get that he came in unprepared but he should have been able to come out for the second and third better than he did.. and there have been other games where he looked shaky at times.

Murray has not had any luck with any of the guys he traded for.

Kane
ROR
Bogosian
Kulikov
Lehner

All have been hurt for extended periods of time this year.

Jesus Christ.

Lehner missed 2 periods Tuesday, and has asked to come back to the bench for tonight's game. Earlier this season, he had the flu.

Think it's more he doesn't have that so called #1-2 label so lets dump him for a higher priced maybe #1-2 type. It's a easy thing to do.

I like him .

Hanging around sick people . He needs to hang around a more healthy crowd. He needs to make better choices off the ice . First Kane and now Lehner

Sens are a good measuring stick though. Probably one of those teams they'll have to beat out if they want the last wild card spot.
