I posted this earlier tonight in response to someone saying the Leafs have the largest fan base in every Canadian city....

The Leafs have a large fan base only due to people in their 40s and 50s who grew up with only two Canadian choices. They could go with the French team and everything that went with French Culture --- the FLQ, Trudeau the Senior or an English team with no apparent baggage and whose names sounded like their own.

Now do not kid yourself....those days are over. The fan base has aged and yes, they do get to go to that one game with their kids to try to relive the past --- the numbers are fewer and fewer.

Also, TSN lost everyone but the Leafs and Jets ---- if they were so impressed by tne leafs numbers --- why are those games not available outside of local markets and do not say it is the 'contract' because money talks and BS walks.

And have you seen TSN ratings? Again... BS walks....

NO ONE..... responded. They all just sort of insulted me and moved on.... quickly.

Rarely do I see them, as a group, so dumbfounded.

With all the Toronto idiots coming in here this week and pumping their chests about winning nothing, it might be good to avoid this place for a week

if Sbisa shows he can handle a greater load with Tanev and Edler out, then Nux should trade Tanev and get that help they need for a legit top line center replacement (not that Horvat won't continue to improve) like a RNH or someone of similar ilk...

Don't worry it's only a few of the Toronto idiots and we'll be outnumbered.

50.1: This is Ben Hutton’s shot-attempt differential (Corsi) for the past two years when he’s playing with Chris Tanev. It’s probably not surprising, but Hutton has arguably played his best when paired with Tanev. This may be something the Canucks want to revisit.

Edler could be traded might bring back the scoring that we need

If people liked our D-corps last night... it will look so much better when Tanev and Edler are back in the lineup replacing Larsen and Sbisa...

Stecher-Hutton on the point for PP1 actually made the powerplay functional.

Fun game to watch last night

In response to those thinking the trades will flow because of the youth stepping up, I think a performance like this makes people in the organization think "we can be so much better with our top 2 defense, Hansen, etc. all back... playoffs!" and then they hoard all their assets and we all freak out because of the poor asset management

I agree with that comparison. I dont think Spezza really got the credit for being a true #1, and I think RNH wont get the same credit either but he'll still perform

I like the pairing, but I hoping to see the two switch sides once they gained possession in the offensive zone. I dont know if the Sedins want it that way, but I like when the D switch sides to set up the one time shot from the point. Hutton being LH and Stecher RH, I was expecting to see it, perhaps its something they work on now with Edler out long term

The question isn't, will they experience round 4 of the playoffs? The question is, can they ever make the playoffs again, and not choke in round 1 Game 7 with a 2 goal lead halfway through the 3rd period and then lose in overtime.

Yeah I'm a fan of that as well having your D on their off side to open up lots of 1 timers. I did notice Hutton looked eager to make more creative plays with Stecher out there, probably works a lot better for him than Tanev on the PP

People will freak out because we have too many delusional fans. Fans are constantly overrating our own players. The garbage 7, Hamhuis, Vrbata...the list goes on. If Edler is traded the return won't be that strong. Everyone needs to remember that if we don't want a player a good team also won't want them!

Edler is a solid top 4 Dman in the NHL I think we all know that, probably not top pairing material anymore but a good 2nd pairing guy. As far as I know that's good enough in todays trade market to bring in the top 6 scoring winger JB has been looking for.

Do I think it will happen? No.
Do I think it should happen? Only once we get further proof that we can manage without him for more than a couple games.

I'd like to see these D pairings when everyone is healthy:

Hutton-Tanev
Edler-Stecher
Tryamkin-Gudbranson (mainly D-zone starts for these guys)
