james got the team right but wrong forward.. it's Charlie Coyle, nino has a better shot but coyle is better at everything else.. nino's shot suppression #'s are a product of the team not nino.. he's never used in defensive situations at the end of games or on PK.. which says to me don't put nino on the ice if we need shot suppression or defense of any kind.. how a player is utilized can very much skew shot suppression #'s.

p.s. i know PK isn't a factor in 5v5 SS #'s, just using for example of nino's defensive ability or lack there of

He'll put up 15 points in 15 games and dominate every single shift. And then put up 3 points the next 20 games and not even be noticeable.

He started this season off extremely hot. He's now in a funk, again, the last 10 or so games.

I dunno he hasn't gone more than 2 games without a point this season. 4 points in 10. He's not a point per game player but I'd glady accept his pace. You can have Bryan Rust, we'll take Kreider of your hands.

You know... that really ugly short dude that plays for the Rangers that kind of looks like Recci..
- Flamin_Irishmin

I believe you mean Ricci.

Recchi looked like George Clooney compared to the Mad Witch!!

Don't bring your logic and reasoning around here, man. Tanner just scans the stat sheet's and whoever has the top number for the Stat-of-the-Day is the right answer. "And that's a fact."

I know just thought i'd be the gazillionth person to point out to him you need the whole picture not just stats.. i really like nino for what he brings, but it's definitely not shot suppression.. if you follow the wild you would have laughed out loud like i did when reading that defense is the reason nino is underestimated

Perhaps it was a good thing the Pens and him never reached a LTM deal for $6m per

It probably wouldn't have taken you 7 years between cups if you had. Guy is a beast and still only 28 years old.

Not necessarily. We had the full trio in '10 - didn't happen. Arguably the two years after one of Sid or Geno wasn't healthy

One of the ways we won last year was due to our depth -$6m for a third line center is a bit much. And considering he probably wasn't going to sign without his brother, i really have no love lost.

He's a dominant possession player against elite talent. He may not get a boatload of points himself, but the Canes always, ALWAYS score more goals when he is on the ice than they give up. That's not a coincidence.

Coaches often do not realize what they have in a player, hence the need for statistical analysis.

Well except for the fact that Nino is widely considered by virtually all the people I use to get information from as one of, if not the premier defensive forward in the NHL.

The very definition of +/- is ES goals for when player is on the ice minus ES goals against when player is on the ice.

He has literally been on the ice for 3 more even strength goals against than even strength goals for.

Your statement was flat out wrong.

Note: I realize that SH goals for and goals against while on the PP also effect +/- but those are fairly irrelevant

I guess that's looking at his entire tenure in Carolina. I was just looking at his current season.

How long is he out for btw?

Indefinitely. Concussed.

Moving Teravainen to 2C in his absence.

Skinner - Rask - Lindholm
Aho - Teravainen - Stempniak
Di Giuseppe - Ryan - Nestrasil
Nordstrom - McClement - Stalberg

then all the people you use, virtually never watch nino or the wild play, and try to judge his game based solely on stats just like you.. he is a last resort in defensive situations for the wild right above chris stewart and the weekly 4th line call up from the AHL.. premier defenders usually kill penalties or are in for defensive zone draws in close games. no?? nino serves the extra 2 min on penalties all the time cause he's a premier defender
