Really - did you know he also plays C? I'm curious how you would replace a top line forward so easily when this one required a year of sucking to draft in the top 10.
- 1979AD

A winger that can play C but wont cause we have enough top line ones?
So we'd need to replace a winger then.
Free agency.
Just saying its easier to find a top six winger then a quality top 4 dman imo.

I dont want to trade Nylander....just saying.
Could Nylanders mins be replaced with Brown or Sosh...and brown's replaced with sosh's or kapanen...I dont know.
But we have that luxury to play with.
Id rather see nylander play on the leafs the rest of year.
But our D pool is so bad.

oh and you could still finish in the top ten this year. so there you go.

Especially since Joe Thornton Brad Richards Steven Stamkos John Tavares is coming to Toronto (and willing to play here for less money).

then who after?

Let's see how this expansion thing shakes out. Let's also see where these young studs all are at the end of this season.

Babcock usually brings his centres up as wingers first. Matthews is the exception, simply because he's a not the usual prospect. I think our d-pool is where our forward pool was when we drafted Nylander. Two drafts can change that.

Sometimes those 5-6-7 scrubs turn into something more......but you never know unless you try them out...
btw...Mark Giordano was once a 5-6-7 scrub.

- mykokes

Ya we've had 10 years of 5-6-7 scrubs. They turned into nothing more.

Glad Calgary got lucky once

I would stick with your favorite but if you're looking for (possibly?) a new good spot I really like Abe & Louie's on Boylston
- RickJames77

Not a new spot - been there a few times.

Good call, though.

Ooooh, almost forgot: I have reciprocal privileges at the Union Club - so we will stop by there for a drink.

I poop you not: they still have a carved ivory tusk on display on the mantel in one of the sitting rooms.

Oh man, the place just reeks of old money.

You're right. I don't expect playoffs till next year anyway.

But they need to upgrade the D, because it is a tire fire

It's simple economics, you have a position of strength (at the forward position), and trade from that surplus to address a position of weakness (at the defense position).

- WingmanWillie

Jvr, Kapanen or even this year's 1st (after the lottery) are expendable to me.

Nylander seems like he's part of the future core.

I get your point. I think Nylander has a much brighter future than anyone in the world named Dougie.

Besides, I would think Burke would value JVR plus some useless futures almost on par with Nylander. Burke's the type of guy who's ego and vanity is his weakness.

Bottom line is, I think it would be folly to force/rush any deal right now.

Acquiring a top 4 defenseman means they need to win it all now?

Good lord, the hyperbole is (frank)ing astonishing in here

- WingmanWillie

Why would we even think about trading Nylander yet. This will be his first full season in the NHL, the first month of it he was rookie of the month.

Draft and develop at this stage. Trades at this stage should not include Morgan/Matthews/Marner/Nylander

FA market seems thin again.

TJ oshie might be decent, but age/injuries are a concern.

Still think you'd love the Brewer's Fork in my hometown which is about a mile from the garden.

Great beer and nice pizza and small great plates. Pretty laid back place. Could pop in before the game

What's your relationship with Rielly that makes him so special you call him by his first name while the rest of the crew are last named called?

This is what my resin soaked brain is trying to explain: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly. Potential high end 10-15 year core of the team. DO NOT TOUCH.
