Honestly, I would be surprised if they were offering JVR 1 for 1.
I am not a JVR fan, and I believe he could be on the market. I am just not so sure the Leafs are keen on a Dman who hasn't proven he is or will be a top-pairing guy, making over 5 a year. The player he is right now, would be a liability going forward.
It would be a risk that I am not sure I could see the Leafs taking. |

We're going to lose someone to keep Leivo...(even though I would like him on Matthews other wing.....Leivo, Matthews, Brown.)
Carrick....I like him but a bigger/better RD in Hamilton.
JVR is the biggest hit in that deal but we are pretty full on the wings.

Hamilton is better than Carrick, but the difference isn't large enough to give up JVR. Unless something(s) coming back, it will be a massive overpayment for a second pairing guy. |

Yeah his 4.1M cap hit is honestly insane. Posting 30 goals for years.
JVR with 1M retained for Sergachev, Gallagher and 2 second rounders 2017 and 2018 ( basically early 3rd rounders considering your presumed success in 2017-2018). Don't care if you accept 
I think JVR, Rychel and Marincin for Hamilton and Jokipakka would be good.
Marincin and Rychel are both big and we know Burkie likes his size and strength.
Jokipakka could be a future Polak replacement playing 5-6 on the depth and Hanilton can slide into the top four playing with Gards or Rielly. I like the Zaitsev-Rielly pairing for now and would love to see them continue to play with eachother and getting used to movements and stuff. |
