It just kinda sucks...in 1985, 2987, and 2010, they were up against dynasties (granted, it was Chicago's first of 3). That team was just super stacked, and Edmonton may have been the best NHL team ever assembled.

Also, think about this 5-year run:
2008 - lost to team that made it to SCF
2009: lost to team that won SC
2010: lost to team that won SC
2011: lost to team that won SC
2012: lost to team that made it to SCF

my buddy talks about this a lot. kind of crazy how they seem to run into juggernauts. Might continue too with how some teams are loading up via "the draft"

I do not think the rebound was impossible to prevent. I think with time he will prevent those with more regularity
- YuenglingJagr

I don't think it's impossible either, just almost, and very difficult. Most goaltenders would struggle with that play, and I disagree that the situation there can be prevented with regularity. It's simple physics. A hard low shot from that angle is going to create a rebound in most cases. You hope that it doesn't head right for the opposition's stick.

lol whatever man. you're right, it is simple physics. it is going to create a rebound right for the oppositions stick when your pad is angled to the oppositions stick. I think it is pretty clear that he was late to kick his leg (something he is attempting to do during the save). I highly doubt Stolarz feels like he got unlucky on that play

Rebounds happen in hockey and not every rebound is preventable. They happen, and sometimes the rebound goes right onto an opponents stick, unfortunately

In a perfectly elastic collision, the angle of incident equals the angle of reflection. If we consider the puck hitting the pad to be pretty elastic, then a slight change in the angle of incident will change the angle of reflection by twice the change in angle of incident (i.e. a 4 degree change to the angle of the pad will result in the puck traveling 8 degrees different to where it did originally).

In other words, if he angles his pads slightly differently, the puck's trajectory is majorly impacted.

Roger Maris still has the record.

For reals, Mike Knuuble is a record holder in the HHOF.

we also need to account for gravity, the coefficient of friction on the ice based on how far into the period play is, puck rotation, and the possibility that the shot were to somehow go through a vacuum

once I account for all that, you are still right

i feel like mason has turned the corner. he's looked sharper and seems confident now to me. i didn't catch all of the NY game, so i don't know if he was good or not. he just struggles on breakaways - in game and in the SO. not sure he'll ever get better at that. it's a weakness in his game. aside from those chances, i like how he's playing.

the masses think he sucks. they can die in a grease fire.

- hammarby31

I like Mason and want to see him back next year and I hope Stolarz takes enough steps in his game to be the backup

Stolarz is the one that worries me. They have to expose one goalie signed past this season. Right now, they don't have anyone who fits that bill. If they sign and expose Mason or Neuvirth, they'll get claimed. Do they sign a guy like Emery for the league minimum for a year, expose him, and then have him retire after the expansion draft?
- jmatchett383

I would do that

Still raises the question of which one you expose.

how i miss watching games with you.
- hammarby31

I totally miss you almost losing your mind, esp over the idiots that always seemed to sit behind us. We had a guy last night who complained about EVERYTHING. at one point my friend said loud enough "I wonder why he even spent the money to come". a game I went to a few weeks ago, a guy behind us talked about how bad Provorov is. I said what??? loudly at one point.

The vacuum part is almost right, as you'd need to account for all of those things. However, the angle takes place at a point source, so all other factors are irrelevant.

Worst dudes. It seems like they're planted every 2-3 rows spaced about 10 seats apart so that, if you're lucky, you get 2-3 of them within earshot.
