Wow, Gallant coaches the Panthers yesterday and then after the game he takes his suitcase and calls a cab. Pictures on TSN, pretty low.

The pics were nauseating. I can't imagine doing a respected coach like they did.

I think Jack is going to make a gigantic different. It isn't just "one player".

1) He allows 23 to go back to the wing

2) Last year he led the league in zone entries (sorry, can't find the link)

3) In theory some dead weight on the 4th line takes a seat on the press box

4) Any one of the last few games could have (should have) gone the other way.

I really do see this team starting to roll in the coming weeks. I think we saw improvement in the second 10 games over the first 10 games.

From Tanner's new blog:

1. a player can go 13 games without a goal (Auston Matthews) and not be in a slump because he still gets an elite level of shots and scoring chances

2. most of the Hockey World doesn't realize the Panthers success last season was partially, if not mostly, because of favorable results

This just gets back to the same business I have never understood. Points in the standings come from wins and ties - winning and ties require GOALS to be scored, not just shots to be taken.

Also, someone please define "favorable results" doesn't that mean they won games? If so, do we need math to analyze the second statement?

I want to say they were tallying how many times he hit the post and how there was absolutely no concern during the slump......

I told everyone Girgensons was a bum, guy scored 6 goals in an AHL season, sure he had 15 goals when his Dad Nolan was coach playing 20 minutes a game but the guy stick handles puck with his head down, can't make plays and can't win faceoffs...I remember people saying "he's future captain" and face of the franchise lol...just thought I'd chime in years later to quote brainy smurf "I was right I was right"

I remember when Matthew Coller said "I wouldn't trade Girgensons for Nathan Mackinnon"...lol. "At age 19 one of best two was centers in league" ha ha

What a great GM we have giving long term deal to Moulson. Slowest team in league what a joke. Blows a first round pick on a goalie who's always injured and have proven zero

Well if he hits the post that doesn't even count as a shot.... so i mean that is pretty concerning, but he is missing with Dignity. So its ok.

As far as the Sabres scoring woes:

Do you have the talent? Yes

Are you healthy? Kinda

Puck Possesion? Check

Shots on goal: Check

Creating scoring chances: Check

The formula is there, the results are inexcusable. Too many guys squeezing the sticks too tight. Not enough chipping in from the blue line.

I agree with you, I think he will make a large difference and the goal scoring will come because they focus on Jack (and he can still beat them at times) then focusing on Reinhart, Okoposo, O'Reilly, Kane.

I think we have done just fine with him out of the lineup and can't wait until tomorrow night. His first game last year, against Ottawa. First game this year... against Ottawa. Just get his name on the score sheet and I will be happy.

comes down too.. The Leafs picked him so he is elite and he is giving the rest of the league a head start. So no slump.

Eh, it is though. Our default #1 center O'Reilly has been back for 2 games and they have only scored a goal in each game.

There are 2 sides to every coin. Why isn't Sam Reinhart producing going up against 2nd and 3rd D pairings?

Why isn't this coach trying someone else with Risto? Does this team loosen up defensively with Eichel, considering he isn't a great 2 way player, and Larsson and O'Reilly have gotten a bulk of the top 6 minutes.

Eichel is going to make a difference, but people over estimate 1 player, as we have just seen with O'Reilly being back

O'Reilly has been fantastic. He had some bad luck in terms of just missing several goals... it happens.

As for the rest of the stuff... good points. I still think that we are going to start trending up instead of treading water.

Oh I agree, definitely better with Eichel. He's going to be that good. My concerns are more with coaching and the roster construction. I don't think Eichel is just the magic pill that will fix all issues

There isn't a player alive that would. And even if there were you can't build a team like that.
