Our season/off-season to do list from my perspective
-Re-sign Lehner for 3/4 years under 4 mil
-Re-sign Kuli if you can get him locked up for around 4 mil, if not trade him at the deadline
-Do what you can to start clearing bad contracts (Bogo, Gorges, Ennis, Moulson, Kane in that order)
-Hope Vegas takes one of said contracts.
-Let go of Gionta/Gorges
-Fix the defense, no matter what it takes (only keepers right now are Risto and McCabe)
-Retool bottom half of roster
-Name Eichel captian, ROR and Okposo assistants
-Profit

I can't believe we're as bad offensively as the tank years.

I figured we would regress this season, and was roundly mocked for saying so this summer.

Granted, the Eichel injury has been a big factor. However, we are getting much better goaltending than expected which has mitigated some of that.

My rationale for our regression was GMTM not doing enough to shore up the winger or blue line positions.

As someone said earlier, the Winnipeg trade has been a disaster. Even the O'Reilly trade isn't looking as great as it initially did since we are so deep down the middle that Reinhart is playing out of position.

You really have to wonder if we would have been better off with Darcy standing pat and just using all the picks we had been accumulating. Maybe we would have been bad again last year and now would have Laine or Matthews to go with Jack and Sam.

GMTMs sin was impatience. We could be like the Leafs if we had exercised more restraint and not tried to accelerate the rebuild. Now we'll just be chasing Toronto for the next decade.

probably should have snatched him up in hindsight

Matthew Coller ‏@MatthewColler
@DrewbertD Def should be. Though I'll say this: They tried to trade Bogo this offseason and there weren't takers.

- Not sold on Lehner. I'd rather trade his rights then sign him to a deal which will surely cost at least 4mill. Go with Nillson and another guy for a year or two and hope Peterson is the future
- Not sold on Kulikov I think a mix of the injury and having terrible D partners has ruined his time here thus far. He hasn't stood out yet enough for me to warrant another deal here. Subject to change of course.
- Agree on bad contracts. Hopefully Murray shows some balls and does this.
-Retooling bottom half of the roster unfortunately will take at the very least a new coach and quite possibly a new GM. I've like Foligno and Larsson for the most part this year and would like to keep them on. The rest besides the youngsters can leave.

I like Foligno and Larsson as well, I hope they are both here next year, but it really comes down to their contract demands. Bring in guys like Condra, "smart" bottom 6-ers, or just let the youngins battle it out. Anyone but Deslauriers

I think the Reimer contract is a good comparable to what Lehner should get (Reimer got 5yrs 3.4 mil). It's still a tradeable contract.

Also Nilsson is a UFA so I don't know if he re-signs here

on a short term deal even that lazy ass would have been okay here. For the first time we could see him in a complimentary role instead of part of a flawed core.

Picture Moulsons hot start on the ppX2. We'd be in a playoff spot.

Yeah, and that was right after he won a stanley cup

The only way Lehner gets that much is if Murray's Ottawa love goes too far, which is a very real possibility lol

Bylsma would probably park him on the 4th line with Grant and Girgensons because he doesn't play a 200ft game and he'd have half the points he has now

He'll get the "what the (frank) kind of defense did you give me last year" raise. Similar to what risto got.

Sabres could have gotten Sobotka for Paille but opted for picks instead (Kevin Sundher + conditional never met).

Yea, I know he's got a job to do, but he's very defensive about every single prospect. It's weird

I think he does that with all prospects in general. I havent seen him talk poorly about one unless something has come out about their work ethic or something along those lines.

Give a letter grade for the following

GMTM C I like the guy, but I don't like what's he's done with the assets
Disco Dan D I've seen nothing.
Lehner B Talents there, needs more consistency.
Reinhart C Talents there, needs more consistency and more time with the puck.
Kane D I just don't know. This guy is the best chitty player I've ever seen.
Okposo B Okay, but I can see him becoming on fire with the right center.
Girgens F What the hell happened to this guy? Such drive gone down the toilet.
Foligno B+ Doing everything right this year for a guy at his talent level.
Risto B+ Looks like he's taking the next step, needs to tighten things up on D.
McCabe B+ Progressing nicely, hope he stays that way.
ROR C+ Meh, tough start to the season, we need more out of him.
Moulson B Better than expected.
Gionta C He is what he is at this point in his career. Not terrible, not great.
