Carrick could be on 3rd pairing, but he brings similar things as Gardiner (not very good in own zone, offensively quite ok).

If you want an upgrade on D, it's a significant player going the other way.

Maybe you should watch some other teams games.....and see how pathetic their 56 guys are....you'd be praying for some Polak/Hunwick if you were the Coyotes or the Nucks.

I agree, on the same time the expansion draft does provide for an extraordinary situation (wpg, stl) to get a good d-man for 'cheaper' as normally possible.

Leafs do have 2 2nd rounders 2017 they can give up as well. + JVR
Personally I think Leafs should sell high on Nylander in order to get a young top2 d-man, although that's a high risk.
I'm not sure why, but I just think he'll pan out less good as we are all hoping.
(could turn out to be biggest mistake of last 10y as well to trade Nylander though).

I really don't want to see Nylander in any trade discussions. The Leafs aren't in a position to sell high at this point. That's what has gotten them in trouble in the past. See what Nylander becomes and if he's not in the plans, trade him.
