I'm visiting my parents for 5 days in scarlem and then flying right back to Montreal to catch all the Finland round robin games that are going for about 9 USD a ticket on stubhub right now

P.S. Bracco likely to play on team USA would be fun to catch

How do you go to the games?

I went to a Leafs/Devils game a few years ago, and we were warned by many to take the train in, walk through the mall, run across the street as fast as you can and go into the arena.

Is it really that bad? Or can you park a few blocks away and walk to the game?

There's areas of Newark you don't want to be in after dark, but it's safe around the arena/ train station.

I live about 20 minutes from Newark so I drive in often and walk. I've been to Pru center several hundred times between concerts, games, etc and have never seen or heard of any incidents in the immediate area. If I know I'm going to get bombed I will take the train in and walk the way your friends told you.

At what point to sports fans turn their backs on these games? When I can buy a new 60" TV for less than the cost of attending a game with my family, it starts getting a little stupid.

Yup, attending an NHL game is a once a year affair for me and only at the right price.

For the price of a single Habs/Leafs ticket, I get to hang out in the Bell Centre for each game during each day of round robin play. 4 straight days of international junior hockey over the xmas break is better than any present I can get under the tree.

It was the people at the hotel who warned us, but I wondered if it was more of them being overly cautious with their guests.

It was several years ago - it was a Sunday afternoon game, and the Giants were in the NFC finals. We ended up watching the Giants game (after the hockey game) in the bar at the arena - the one that overlooks the practice rink.

Good times.
