He's also almost 3 years older..? So in three years any shink/granlund comparison will actually make sense.

A point that should also be made is granlund is what he is coming from the flames orginazation shink might be a bit damaged because of where he came from like a long list of van prospects.

The flames had too much depth or you wouldn't have had him at all

- Bigalow

Depth? The only depth the Flames have is the load of poop they have in their dressing room.

They've got some great young NHL players, but depth is something they don't have.

Oh they'll get an asset, by utilizing his cap space! I was just being facetious as I don't think they'd throw Horvat to the wolves like that but it was something I'd think about if our centre depth was better.

If Gillis had of taken Shea Theodore, Benning wouldn't have had to trade for Gud. Theodore is ready to play in the NHL. Then we'd still have McCann.

Man this franchise is a train wreck.

If If If...shoulda woulda coulda...come on man...

We'll be fine with Boeser Stecher and Juolevi here.

SO why would you need high scoring Hunter with all that depth?
Or are you admitting you guys got duped into letting go a good asset for a dud?

LaBate looked real good at the Young Stars tournament. He worked hard, nice to see him rewarded.

I just found a comment that I could replace my previous "Location" with... I'd been searching for something worthy and can now put that old "Location" to rest...

I was pissed when they sent him down. I thought he did enough in preseason

Gillis was really big on being a bad GM.
- LeftCoaster

This always works to deflect me... almost as good as bringing up fishing.

His easy climb to the final really gave him over confidence. He really never figured out that the Easy Button was just a prop not actually hooked up to anything. Pretty much nothing but fails for the rest of his time here after those finals. Horvatt does not fill the giant hole he left in our future. They really needed that second 1st rounder to be an impact player.

I just like to female dog when I'm flying to work. It makes the time go by quicker lol.

As you said, they'll be fine if they keep drafting well.

Ranked high at one point yes,,,, but went 24th or something didnt he? Over a dozen GM's with entire scouting staffs obviously didnt see him a top 10 pick... no, he was heading closer to the 2nd round and who knows,,, he may have slipped several more spots if Gillis didnt have the same way of getting excited about slippage rather than the players who are rapidly moving up the rankings...

- boonerbuck

Who knows, fact his Shink was taken 24th overall, where-as Granlund was actually passed over by every GM one and a half times (45th).

Again, my argument was all about offensive production, check this out:

Granlund- 121 NHL games played, 0.31 points per game.
Shinkaruk- 13 NHL games played, 0.31 points per game.

Now, if you were a betting man would you wager that if Shink plays the same amount of games as Granlund that his point producer wouldn't increase from it's current sub-par average?

That's why i didn't like the trade, that's why i still currently to not like the trade.
But hey, what's done is done and that's precisely why i think it's best to avoid the issue all together

He did slip but most of us here were high fiving.

We seem to follow the prospects a lot more than we use to. I still remember Nucker running away for two weks when Gillis traded and we took Bo

- VANTEL

I was shocked as well... but ya, I'm pretty happy. I love Horvat much like I did Trevor Linden when he was a young player. It didnt take long to decide that this was the face of the franchise for the new generation.

What in that poop are you going on about? YTou can't do statistical comparisons of players with a sample size of 13 games. Those stats are meaningless. If you compare thier respective AHL numbers maybe.

I wonder if we'll try that Arizona approach of taking on other teams over priced players, along with a blue chip prospect or draft pick?

That may not sit well with the vets on the team though as that's more of a scorched earth approach.

- dbot

Don't you think that the vets already think that the earth is already scorched in Vancouver?

There's no doubt that Granlund is a more versatile player however i continue to believe that Shink possesses a higher offensive ceiling. The kid was drafted (and initially projected in the top 10) as a goal scorer, not a two-way player (no franking argument there).

Moreover, the criticism related to his skating ability was largely pre-injury and/or surgery. He was largely considered one of the better skaters in Utica during his second season as well as a continual stand-out in camp/pre-season due to his speed and his ability to use his edges to out-maneuver defenders.

Until and unless Granlund can consistently put up points he will simply be yet another depth-versatility-add-on scrub that Benning has brought in. The same is undoubtedly true for Shink however i see his development path as much more boom/bust in nature, yet i would still play the odds of his top 6 success over the safe play Benning maneuvered.

- Whiskey-Tango

Yes the high ceiling arguement was the bill of goods sold. But even the Flamers chose an unproven 18 year old fresh from junior to play above him. It's time to realize he's a dud like former Canuck draft Schreider who had similar promise and same results playing for Wild. Or maybe JB is a better scout.

I wasn't sold poop, i actually watched him in Utica.
- Whiskey-Tango

He was not impressive in Utica. In fact, less impressive than Granlund in the A

IKR,

You have to listen to the cry wagon go on and on about losing assets for nothing just to have the wagon driver himself want to throw away Sutter for nothing.

And yet discounting a players overall ability and/or future over the course of those same 13 games is valid?
