I don't think I'd go so far to say that the contract has gone to his head, but I think the whole "new team, new contract" thing might be playing with his head a bit.

I think he's a much better player than he's shown, but I don't disagree with people that say that maybe his role could have been filled more cheaply.

Yup, I agree. If it is was 3 years, at 1.75 aav, I'd feel a lot better about the contract. But, either way, it's not the end of the world. I think he can and will play better, hopefully soon.

Actually if Read finishes with 15+ goals and 30+ points, I could see him being the guy they take. Having only one year left on the deal will likely make him attractive to LV and he's a guy who can help out on both sides of special teams as well.

Doubt it, but you never know. G, Jake, Coots, Simmonds, Schenn are locks and I think Raffl gets protected before Read (though maybe not) either way that leaves only 1 or 2 spots at most and you still have guys like Cousins and Laughton to consider.

If he is hot I could see him traded at the TDL. I think the Flyers would like to move that deal if possible. Maybe they wait one more year when he is closer to FA but I think they would like to move him if they can.

Exactly, moves will be made prior to or at the deadline which will alter some teams decisions when it comes to whom to protect. Heck, if the Flyers aren't in contention, MDZ could get moved at the deadline creating a space to protect Manning as long as AMac has enough games to fulfill their obligation in regards to exposing a veteran dman.
