Doesn't change the fact that one of the top 5 most elite shut down defenseman in the league would have more value.

The window for firing WD before Christmas is closing. I said he could be gone at the 20 game mark depending on the record. I would say he is still gone mostly because of the excessive shutout losses.
- thundachunk

He's got to have a winning record on this next road trip or he's gone. The season is close to being off the rails and they've got 3 fairly winnable games so if he doesn't at least go 2-0-1 before the Minnesota game at home, he's gone. They have 3 days rest after the last game in Colorado so if they're going to make a move to fire the coach, that's when it'd be.

Seems like I'm in the minority about last night's game. I found it entertaining and if we're going to lose I'd rather they lose it that way than lose in a low scoring boring defensive shell game.

If they let Willie go then who do they hire next year, Crawford? Wouldn't he bring back that fast up tempo game from before? The problem is that the Sedins don't fit that style because they're too slow and we'd still be left with a younger teams learning how to play D and into the high scoring games?

Lol. Cmon Vantel you know its Tanev. Tanev definitely has more value outside of Vancouver than here. The World Championships showcased him a lot for that role.

I am not saying he is bad at all. The comment was one of the 5 best shutdown Dmen in the league. That's the insane part

Tanev is seen in quite high regard outside of fans like you who value people who hit more than people who are effective. Hitting can be effective, but you seem to want 12 forwards and 6 defense and 1 goalie that hit everything that moves.

Tanev's stats show him as one of the best. I have read several blogs over the summer that showed how effective Tanev is when in his own end. They all state that he is utter trash in the offensive zone if that makes you feel better.

I do feel your frustration with this group though. I do think that there has to be more changes at least at the end of the season if not during. Seems like a dysfunctional management group right now and I don't know if its' because FA wants to sell and he tells Linbenning something new each day or if he just has his hand in the cookie jar too much period.

Hopefully there is an announcement tomorrow about this very subject. Vantel mentions a bit ago about the jimmy pattison group having a huge announcement tomorrow.

They're getting creamed by Calgary today. Looks like Calgary is running roughshod on them on both sides of the ball.

I'd love Tanev on the Leafs to pair with Rielly. I'd think they would compliment each other perfectly.. Tanev is a very good player.

True, but a bad trade for the leafs. We would be asking more than you guys should give up.

That is likely what we would want. If FA has any say in the team it could also be for JVR+. Tanev + baer for JVR + protected 1st. Before his blind side hit on sedin i wouldn't have minded Kadri, but i doubt we would trade for him.

JVR stinks and is older than our group needs. I wouldn't want him at all.

I never understand this thinking. Sven is not free he is costing close to two million a year. I think moving him and Tanev gives up close to 6 mil or a little more.

Neither one of them have proven to be a winning formula here. There must be some team that needs a Dman and a third line forward or Hansen a second line forward.

I think a fresh start away from the Vancouver cycle system might be beneficial for all involved

- VANTEL

We are getting to that point. We can't wait 4 months every season for Baertchi to get going…we can't risk keeping Tanev and his 45 healthy games per year…we could risk keeping Hansen as he hasn't really shown massive injury-proneness just yet…but if Edler has value we need to move on too.

I with you on moving on from the Swede era…even some of the Americans need to go.

I think we only have 7-9 Canadian players dressing right now on any given night…and I'm sorry that isn't a winning formula…at least not here.

Yeah probably not Marner or Nylander.. I just think he would be a good fit. Doubt there's a deal there at all..
