He'll likely put up 35-40 points this year, maybe more if TK keeps improving. But still, more shots does not necessarily equate to more goals.

I agree. Just stating that the issues with Coots are overblown imo. Yes, he has struggled in certain aspects, but he's not in this terrible downward spiral like some will lead you to believe. Especially his offensive game.

I'd also expect an uptick in his point totals from the additions of the Prov and TK on PP2, but that's yet to be seen.

Entire picture or nothing.

Of course then there would be no arguing about minutia.

the entire picture says...he is producing points at a rate slightly below last year, but at half the shooting percentage

The players you are referencing arent competing with Gostisbehere for ice time in the same roles. With different players and skill sets comes different degrees of evaluation. We know that Gostisbehere's skill set and talent didnt have anyrhing to do with why he sat out.

You're basically just saying accepting mediocrity is okay from guys who you expect to be mediocre, which does nothing to counter the fact that people have a right to be upset when none of us have seen the Flyers ice their most skilled lineup.

Oh I know, and I don't believe it. Why would a young team give up on a top draft pick who is 19? I mainly asked just for conversation for my slow bored Friday at the office
- arichardson22

Well, he was selected by a GM that got fired. And that GM could have had Marner or Provorov or Werenski instead.

I agree as well. I really meant so far this year. I am confident that he will fix that part of his game since he has never struggled with D zone exits any other time that I can remember throughout his career. He may be feeling the pressure, and rushing to get the puck out of the zone to move to his 2 gifted wingers.

If he continues driving play in the right direction, the points will come. People just need to be patient.

And apparently not playing well enough away from the puck, which is also part of the whole picture

His offensive game has been pretty nonexistent this season , hopefully that great shot last night gets him going with the confidence which is really what I think his struggles have been about..

No, it's that I understand that #fancy doesn't tell the whole story. He was benched for non-points related reasons and throwing up all the XvY points stats in the world isn't going to change that. Sure, we can argue that a 6.5% dip in 5v5 production is or isn't significant,* but it has nothing to do with why he sat. I never said it did. I never said he is/was struggling to produce points.

*tbh, not even 1/4 into the season it probably isn't

And goals.

Not nearly as many assists so far this season, but they aren't real points anyway.

I wonder how long Laughton will stay in Lehigh Valley and wonder who moves out to make space?

I know that you didn't, but I believe several have suggest that his offense was part of the reason he was scratched. It was a misconception I aimed to prove wrong. I wasn't using them as reasons why he was scratched.

The #fancies still do show that no matter what the reasons are, he has a more positive effect on the team than others. *disclaimer - not relevant to the above point, just had to throw it in there*

I don't think you can argue that scratching Ghost is the right call. I think you can argue that it doesn't matter if he gets scratched for a game or two, though. That is a point that I have and will agreed with.

That's the key, and really what is driving people to think he's missing the net so much this year. Its a myth. He's missing the net at a rate slightly more than last year, but its so insignificant due to how little the sample size is this year.

But since less of his shots are ending up in the back of the net, I guess people are paying more attention to the shots of his that don't make it on net. Idk.
