Won't be that easy to push things through. The Senate will use fillibusters to grind things to a halt.

Less change is likely.

That'll definitely be a tactic.

The next four years is going to be a mess

Well, for a start the ability to put somebody (or more than one) on the supreme court could potentially lead to the reversal of the previous ruling on marriage equality. Especially when you consider that the VP-elect is a well-documented homophobe who advocates for "conversion therapy".

As for the latter point, having both the house and supreme court on his side would make it significantly easier to push through any proposed bills.

We'll see.

No, we don't. But it doesn't look like we have peaceful times ahead based on the 9 days since the election.

the state of the political discussion, Trump's election and the next steps are still a happier topic than the state of the Canucks.

I never thought I'd see a more floundering organization that the TML vintage 2008 - 2013...

but here come the Canucks!

This is an interesting one Burn.

I saw it last night. At first glance, I read it and thought exactly the same thing. It was a disgusting comment.

Then I saw the woman's apology. She claims she was saying "made my day" in relation to the Trump's being in the Whitehouse, and NOT to the horrible racist comment.

This doesn't excuse her from being stupid. It doesn't mean she should continue to be in office. It is plausible that she actually made just a dumb mistake.

... Of course, there is no forgiveness for the original quote.

- Aetherial

I don't believe that for one second. Not remotely believable.

And no there should be so forgiveness for original.

Are you kidding? He ran on a campaign of saying he'll get rid of all the political insiders and all the special interests and lobbyists and the first thing he does is appoint these types of people to his team going forward

He appoints a climate change denier to the EPA and he has a tool in Mike Pence as his VP who will undo every women an dLGBTPTPPSAPWTQTP rights change as soon as Donald Trump dies of a heart attack

Disagree. The appointment of Bannon as his chief strategist and Myron Ebell to head the EPA transition team is already a bold statement of intent for the next four years - and not a positive one.

I disagree.
The Republicans own the senate and the house.
He has more power than you think...
Kinda like a majority government here.

Fine, you want to talk trump?

Let's talk marketplace logic...Trump gets elected and hasn't done a single thing yet, good or bad, and our mortgage rates go up. Reminds me of the time gas prices went up to $1.35/litre on the possibility *underline the term possibility of the Oil companies putting a cap on oil. Seriously, can economists just wait till he officially gets into office and does something stupid before screwing up our housing market?

Well the difference (thank god) between a majority government in Canada and the relationship between the executive and legislature in the USA is that MPs are beholden to party loyalty which forces them to vote on the party line set by the PM, whereas senators and house representatives sit despite the president's political agenda or policy proposals.

Republicans who hate trump (and there are many of them) don't have to vote his way.

I agree it doesn't look great on paper....

But none of these people have actually done anything yet.

You can hate the system all you want, it's the one in place and it elected Donald (frank)ing Trump.

People make it sound like the republican party will follow everything these bumholes will ask without questions... Member of the congress have elections to win as well... they can't just vote for stuff that make no sense.

Call me an optimist but as long as it doesn't happen, i'll just wait before calling this whole thing a catastrophe.

Yeah you are right about that.

Because the (frank)ing cry-baby raging democrats need to get back to work and quit insulting half the country with their bullpoop.

here is a (frank)ing newsflash... EVERY group who loses the election feel like the person who was elected was "not their President", and everyone who voted for Trump was not a misogynst or a racist or axe-murderer, or village-idiot...
