At first I wasn't worried at all. Ignorance is bliss I guess. But apparently after the Brexit vote it hasn't been safe for foreigners from any country in England. Even Canadians have been assaulted and told to go back to America. Now I fear what will happen in the States will be alot worse. I worry that when Trumps term is done it will take twenty years just to get back to where we are now.

And it will.

Becuase those (frank)ers have guns.

(Not that having a gun is inherently a problem, but add in the social inequality and desperation that many face combined with a lack of proper usage training and there becomes a problem)....

Just to add some hyperbole into the mix, the sun still came up after stalin killed 20 million people during his time in power

It's so depressing thinking about the state of politics. So I am going to call it quits on that front. But in closing I want to say what I am thankful for Trumps presidency enabling...

We get to see what a 4 year term of Kanye West as POTUS is like. Clearly no one cared about policy so it's pretty much all but guaranteed.

He may not run the country... but republicans hold all the power now... and that alone is very dangerous.

He also gets to appoint at least one new Supreme Court judge- which will have very long term ramifications, and has the power to fire and promote all the top military leaders... something he's already hinted at.

Possibly the biggest problem though is what his presidency represents, and the millions of bigots who get to stand a bit taller now that he's in charge. This isn't the majority by any means, but it's still a very large, very dangerous group.

- Feeling Glucky?

Agreed. The other problem is that everybody who voted for Trump knows what he is and what he represents. And whatever their reason for voting for him (whether they believe that he's better for the economy or whatever), they weighed these reasons against the overt discrimination and decided that the opression of women, people of colour and people of other faiths was less important than whatever reason they had - that's what I find to be troubling.

Yup. And all because of a piece of 200+ year old legislation that was written when it took a minute or two to load your (frank)ing weapon

Auston Matthews - first US-Mexican president!

(seriously though - will be in 2021 or 2025 when first 'latino' US president will be a fact)

It'll boil down to who can get more "news" stories on Facebook about their opponent being a lizard-person who eats babies. Regardless of the candidates.

I didn't see that, but I did see his earlier comments about not providing NATO protection for countries who do not contribute a certain % of their GDP towards it (Spoiler alert: That would include Canada).

As for the "getting on with their lives" part, the problem is that many believe that they will not be able to as before on account of being a different race/female/LGBTQ etc. and the addition of folks like Bannon to the White house does nothing to dispel these feelings.

- lumlums

Honestly, whatever good or bad he does... it is about time the other Nato countries stepped up, and that includes Canada.

What do you really think is going to materially change for LGBTQ people?

I get why people hate Trump and I think it is embarrassing as hell that he was elected. I am not getting sucked in by the cry-baby rampaging democrats though.

Obama was pretty clear, and accurate, when he said Trump would not be able to do all the things he says he will, or wants to do. (paraphrased)

Can't stand her simply because she was basically considered a great woman by virtue of her marriage.

I would vote for her every day though over Hillary or Trump.

This is an interesting one Burn.

I saw it last night. At first glance, I read it and thought exactly the same thing. It was a disgusting comment.

Then I saw the woman's apology. She claims she was saying "made my day" in relation to the Trump's being in the Whitehouse, and NOT to the horrible racist comment.

This doesn't excuse her from being stupid. It doesn't mean she should continue to be in office. It is plausible that she actually made just a dumb mistake.

... Of course, there is no forgiveness for the original quote.

Well, for a start the ability to put somebody (or more than one) on the supreme court could potentially lead to the reversal of the previous ruling on marriage equality. Especially when you consider that the VP-elect is a well-documented homophobe who advocates for "conversion therapy".

As for the latter point, having both the house and supreme court on his side would make it significantly easier to push through any proposed bills.

Won't be that easy to push things through. The Senate will use fillibusters to grind things to a halt.

Less change is likely.

I think that there are definitely better candidates for whom this would be true, but I don't think they win with Bernie either. You can bet your bottom dollar that the GOP had a playbook on how to deal with Bernie, and his views being closer to socialist than pretty much anyone before him would be easily used against him.
