Unless we are trading away a couple defensemen it doesn't make sense to get another d-man. Unless of course they don't want Miller or Carlo or morrow to actually play.

They need to trade like Mcquaid, morrow and Krejci for Shat and fabbri. Maybe throw in a second pick from Boston.
If Boston trades Krejci, they are losing one of their best forwards, they need something to at least cover a bit of the production. Fabbri is having a crap year so could get him while his stock is low!

And Fabbri may be having a down year, but I dont think they will want to part ways with him quite yet. More likely scenario is they would want to just cut their losses with Yak and send him with Shats. Even then, he premium on top D men is still quite high. Not sure two injury prone players and a press box player is enough to get that trade done.

That all being said, I think the package (if it includes Krejci) would look something more like:

Krejci (1-2M retained)+ C.Miller + 1st round pick + top prospect (zboril, senyshyn, DeBrusk)

for

Shats + Fabbri

He's not an AMAZING defender... he's just the shiny object at the moment because his contract is up at the end of the year. Though I understand that defense is harder to come by than offense.

I just don't think they should overpay for Shattenkirk when they have guys who might be NHL ready in a year or two. I would rather them phase out Chara and phase in the new guys than bring in an expensive defender to bridge the gap. People are going to need to be PAID soon... I don't know if I would want that money tied up in Shattenkirk.
