Right. And the GA/60 numbers you posted feel like hard data. But the stuff about shot suppression and high danger chances don't feel the same.

Height and weight, and bench reps are all stats, and we can presume bigger stronger guys will be better players than smaller weaker guys, but nobody really looks at those numbers because they're not reliable. It's an exaggerated but similar concept

And even the per 60 stats are only really reliable when the players you're comparing get about the same amount of ice time.

I just use my Yahoo league and look up players I know are or have been hurt to make sure they're ok, but I really don't feel like looking up every player. The only one I looked up this week was Budaj, because I knew another Kings goalie got hurt and I couldn't remember which one.

We'd win the gold in missed open nets..

That's actually the complete opposite. It tells you who should get more/less. That's the entire purpose of them. You can just compare basic stats for players that get relatively the same ice time

Trials can be boring and drawn out. And he had to sit there all day listening to lawyers drone on and on...

In certain situations, yes. But not always. That's the problem, there's no hard and fast rules about it. Do you really think they're not going to play Risto a lot even if they were run by hardcore analytics nerds? And no they can't just trade him he's on the team.
