which prospects are those from those two teams?

sabres have a lot of salary coming off the books next season...right now at about $48M with 14 players under contract...

Carolina is at $41M with 14 players
Arizona is at $46M with 17 players

- Michael Pachla

Arizona?

Strome
Keller
Dvorak
Fischer
Chychrun
Perlini
Deangelo

They already have

Domi
Duclair
Ekman-Larsson
Goligoski
Reider

Agreed. Impatient would be wanting to trade Reinhart for spare parts. Wanting to get rid of dead weight is just good business.

I didn't say that

but I do agree, murray didn't want it be five years before they were good

- Michael Pachla

Michael, wouldn't he be better off waiting for the expansion draft? There will be a lot of decent players that can't be protected and can be had for picks.

how does 31 yr. old goligoski fit in with youngins?

that said...
oel is a stud

domi's doing what domi does, gather a boatload of assists

duclair had a great rookie season last year...this year has has one goal and three points in 14 games (kinda like reinhart)

putting reider in that group is a bit of a reach...but he's off to a solid start this year

they're a real good group, but by no means are they the blackhawks or penguins

They could bide their time with youngins that can't be picked up in the expansion draft and career AHL players that we don't care if they go, and pick up the goodies other teams can't hang on to.

They have done well. But I still think I learn towards the Sabres group at this point just because Eichel over Strome. I think the Sabres do need a bit of a re-tooling though. Time to drop some of that deadweight and replace them with low risk/high reward type guys.

Remember.. Assists are a result of finishers producing . We don't have that yet.

Seems they have been trying that . The whole league tries that . Odds seem 1 in 5 end up being that good/great player..

Pulkinen, Yakupov, Irwin, Condra, hell even Parenteau could have been decent pick ups.

not sure what they'll do but I do know one thing, they don't seem to be intent upon rushing those kids into the nhl...

and I like that idea...for this year

Getting the other GM and ours to agree on anything is a feat all by itself . Because you see a good player go for a 3rd pick doesn't mean
We could have done it . Takes 2 gm's on the same page.

Its a shame a few tools are tuning this into Garth's stream. I enjoy Pach's opinions and objective reporting. I look forward to hearing some of the inside information we get from people like '89. There are far too many whiners here now. A rebuild doesn't mean flip the switch and we are in the third round of the playoffs working off a President's Trophy run.

There are too many moving parts, too much learning to do for both the rookies and the veterans.Way too much of trying to find the players who can play well together, and on top of that having to shuffle for injuries.

One "brilliant blogger" tried to compare us to the Penguins missing either Cindy or Malkin at certain points of the season. We are not anywhere near the Penguins team now, so stop the comparisons, it makes you look even worse. They forget that it took the Penguins 3-4 years to remove themselves from the basement, we are on year 2 of putting significant upgrades in players on the ice. And yes we still have at least 5 players that will not be part of the finished product on this team.

We are making progress, it is slow, and far slower than most want, but we are making progress. Wishing to jettison a player within their first year or two on the team because they are not where that person thinks they should be is ridiculous. It used to be a rookie defenseman was between 25 and 28 years old and most rookie forwards were between 21 and 24. These kids at 18 to 19 years old are not the answer yet. They have to develop.

If you don't like this, oh well. Patience is necessary, even with the coach. At this time last year, our lines (all 4 forward and 3 defensive) weren't the same for more than 2 games in a row.

I still believe that there is still an outside chance that the team can make the playoffs as built. Lehner is performing better than I expected and Nilson is definitely a decent backup. We will eventually get our injured players back. And other teams will also go through bad stretches will injuries and just bad droughts. There are still 65+ games left, sorry chicken little, the sky is not falling yet.

But the other guys are all waiver claims. Any of them could have been decent pick ups. Although I do like giving the young guys a shot. Anyone but Deslauriers.
