I just looked at Kasdorf's stats in Rochester.

At this time, he looks destined to be a beer league goalie.

- SabreWest

Not surprised
I said repeatedly that he wasn't good at all
Not that I'd give up on him yet
I just never saw him as a possible answer in goal for us in any way
Maybe he could be a decent AHL goalie?
Maybe an NHL backup at some point?
But he's got a long way to go

There are a lot of players to female dog about right now, I don't get why continuing to complain about a 20 yrs old kid is warranted. Lets complain about why Kane isan't scoring, or others....or how about a former 1st round pick @14 that does WHAT???
Some people on this board are so quick to dismiss maybe he just hasn't figured it out yet.... maybe that wont happen for another year or two or three.... but lets run them out of town.

- gordong

Apparently I'm the Grinch lol we are not trying to run him out of town a lot of us thought he was going to be the next man up to replace Jack

We are just annoyed that people are saying when Jack comes back he'll be better
When you take a player second overall it's not to be a complement player it's supposed to be an impact player

fwiw...

from what I can recall, the sabres decided that "the core" would be no more and began tearing it down with the trade of gaustad...the team went headlong into total rebuild-mode with the intention of trading every piece of regier's core...

they had planned on having a top pick in the 2014 draft and all you needed to do was just listen to what then president ted black was saying and look at the retention of Rolston as head coach to confirm what was going on...when murray came on board the process of dismantling "the core" was well along and he continued it with the miller/ott to stl trade...were they concerned about finishing dead last?...not as much in 2014 as in 2015, but they were planning on having a top pick in the 2014 draft...

upon finishing last (and getting the second-overall pick,) the unanimous choice for their pick was reinhart...he was their top-rated player in the spring and remained so at the draft...of note, I believe murray said that had the cats taken reinhart, a trade-down was a possibility...

the objects of the sabres affection in 2015 were McDavid and Eichel...finishing last would guarantee one of them for buffalo and that's how it played out...

murray said back in early 2014 that he wanted two drafts...the two homegrown core players he would be building with turned out to be buffalo's top selection in each o those drafts--reinhart and Eichel...

that's how I recall it

I'm perfectly relaxed. I just don't understand the "he's a bonus" point as if he isn't a HUGE factor in this rebuild.

The one thing I agree on, is the not caring too much aspect. I don't really care when we lose, and that's maddening the hell out of me. I want to care. I want to look forward to every game. I want to talk about who we might match up with in the post season as opposed to who are we going to offload our dead weight. But that's the state of this team. And to be honest, I think it's a shame. It hasn't been fun or nerve-wracking in a long time.

- sbroads24

Still not understanding what I mean. I'm saying "he's a bonus" because he's already scored 49 points in just his first 103 games at just barely 21 years old. You're seeing it through your own disappointment in his play.

I'm happy with his overall game including last year. He's having a tough time this year, yes, but as of yet there's no reason to think he's regressed. he's not getting any help from his teammates. I see the long game; I'm not so caught up in the present. Some players take longer than others to figure the game out, and let's face it not every player makes others around him better regardless of where they're picked, Ovechkin doesn't, he's a taker, he takes Backstrom's passes, he doesn't really make Backstrom a better player. He certainly inflates his point totals, but I don't think Ovechkin makes him better. And let's not forget Jack also really turned up his game when they started playing together, so maybe he's the type that makes good players better, but average to below average players just aren't on the same plane as he is. Which is kind of what it seems like. It's all disjointed. There's no such thing as a perfect player. Drafting players in the NHL is a crapshoot given how young they are when they're drafted. Was it a mistake? Time will tell. It's only year 2 though.

I saw the red band trailer and what I saw was funny, but I had a feeling it's one of those movies that shows all it's jokes in the trailer.

I'll give it a watch, but I have other stuff I want to see first. I just saw Sully came up in HD which I want to watch first. I've been re-binging on The X-Files recently too.

I honestly don't recall that quote, but if it was after the draft, and it had to have been, because you don't telegraph intentions like that, then you can take that with a big grain of salt. Murray is masterful at manipulation. He's usually so candid that when he says something you generally believe it, but then he throws something in there like he wasn't totally devastated when we lost the McDavid lottery when the look on his face more than said he was. And other lesser things. I think he would have had a hell of a time passing on Ekblad.

The rest of the post sounds about right to what I recall. I think they kept Rolston because they wanted to give him time and when it was clear he wasn't good they cleaned out the front office and coaches.

The thing I'm comparing Reinhart to is that we desperately needed McDavid, and in the worst case, Eichel, but we were just hoping for the best player we could get in 2014. It happened to be Reinhart whom we took. And he had a really good rookie year and it's not like he's playing like Girgensons was last year where you had a bunch of guys succeeding but he's stuck in the mud. The whole team is stuck in the mud this year, him included. But he gets singled out because he's a 2nd overall pick in his 2nd year. It makes no sense to me whatsoever that he's getting such a hard time on here. Because other young guys are playing well? Not really from his top 5 in his draft class they're not, and that's really the only fair thing to compare him to because draft classes vary wildly.

You just made my point. They pulled a TO from the McDavid year and started late. They ended up getting there though, but they were trying to win at first, but when they realized it wasn't working they tanked, and fired Darcy, they tried to get the best player they could. McDavid was the target right from that moment. Whoever they got that year was a bonus.
- Wetbandit1

This is totally downplaying Reinhart's importance to the rebuild. Making it seem like we can take him or leave him.

If Reinhart isn't a true impact player, then we need another one. Badly. That's what Gerbe and I are saying

Okay, he has scored 23 or more goals in a season 2 times going on his 8th year, his first 4 years in the NHL he had 15,21,11,18.....

Or how about Jordan Staal 2 times he has scored 23 or more.....in 10 years!

Now tell me how many of those where "impact player in there 2nd year... the number is pretty low.

How about we just give Sam some time to grow up... Not all players are Eichel, Malkin, or Heatley

Jordan stall is one of the best defensive forwards in the league . And I would say when he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins one of the best third line centers in the league

if you can't figure that out ......

JVR is an impact play but Sam is not... was JVR an impact play his first 4 years? NO..... but he is good enough, but Sam is not? GIVE HIM TIME... just because you want him to be doesn't mean he will be, and sometimes it takes these guys years to "get it" don't be so damn short sighted.... We are not winning the Stanley cup this year or next year anyway....Sam does a lot of little things very well at 21... he'll get better...
