I think he will do it eventually, but hes only 21 years old (turning that in September)
When he is 23-24 and still can't crack that mark then I would be getting worried bc then its a sign he never will crack it.
People just assume that if you are 1st overall that you should be on fire out of the gate, especially if you enter the league at 18. He played 3 years under Roy and got jerked around the roster, asking to do things he should have to do. Now he is under a new coach. He hasn't had the best start to his NHL career when it comes to coaching stability. I dont have any issues with MacK and what he has done up to date. If he had Bednar to start his career instead of Roy, I think he would be 70 point player already - DDM-Coga
Fair or unfair the expectations for first overalls are high. I agree he's young and can turn it around, hence why I would wait for it. |

Some Av Fans on twitter are already calling him a bust and wanting to trade him. Honestly dont understand how people can jump off that ledge already.
Its fair that tougher on him, should be higher expectations, but this isnt a Yakupov being lost everytime he steps on the ice. MacK still does jaw dropping stuff all the time, just whatever reason he is cursed when it comes to scoring. I would love to see how many posts he has hit this season. Its mind boggling right now |

Just noticed Matthews is hovering around a point per game. People can use the Laine chirp all they want. If Matthews keeps this pace up as a rookie, while learning to play as an NHL centre then there should be no question the Leafs made the right pick. |

Yep, even if Laine turns out to be Ovechkin 2.0, I'll take the centre. It's teams built around a drafted centre that have won Cups. |

Keeps this pace up (which is unlikely) he'll end up with 72 points. Much higher than the 55 I thought he would get. 65 seems like a much more reasonable target. Which is pretty spectacular for a rookie. |

That little storyline needs to end soon. Can't help but feel a lot of plans for roster moves hinge on that contract. |

I dont know why a team like Coyotes or Jackets just didnt trade for him. IF they get a credit for buying him out, would have made sense. |

Yeah, but, the Leafs could have had a guy who is benefiting from playing with two legitimate first line forwards, instead of two other rookies. Stoopid Laffs fans. 1967. Kerry Fraser. |

Yeah. The cap credit concerns me less than the bottleneck the contract is causing. Can't really make any moves if you may have 4 mil or whatever magically appearing back on your books. |

I'm totally sure Laine's shooting % is totally sustainable. 24%, all the top goal scorers score that frequently! |

everyone has their own opinion. i think he is far from an elite talent. someone who has no problem grinding which every team needs. problem is they are a dime a dozen - Mandree85
Brown will never be a scoring superstar. If that is what you are looking for, look at Marner. We used up a high first rounder to get Marner though. Brown cost a 6th. Brown looks like he's a definite NHLer with the talent to become a decent 3rd liner, possibly even a 2nd liner someday. Maybe a 3rd liner you can move up if you want to shake up your lines or there is an injury. He can chip in offensively, has a high hockey IQ, he's fairly quick, tough, good defensively, and he's cheap on his ELC.
1st rounders aren't even guarantees to make the NHL, so to get a 6th that turns into Brown is awesome. Consider that Tyler Biggs was a first round pick. Think of all the 1sts that teams have used over the last several years that appear to be busts, or just players with less ability than Brown possesses.
Drafting good players like Brown in the later rounds is how teams become great. They have him, instead of giving a contract to some overhyped, overpaid free agent that will likely do a worse job. |

17 goals on 253 shots in the Finnish league last year.
They have way better d and way better goalies in the finnish league though so that obviously explains why he scored on 6.7% of his shots and not 24% of his shots though. |

Yeah it's weird, I thought there'd be more finish in that league. |
