Wtf. I don't think so man.
I don't see the issue here. The guy was a 5th round pick. Won a few awards and excelled at every level he's played at. Why shouldn't fans be happy and excited about a 5th round pick turning into an NHLer. That's how teams become good. Draft elite talent high and add players in the later rounds of depth. Get over it. He's got what 10 points in 21 nhl games? Pretty good imo for a bottom 6 guy who is still young. - systemtool

No wonder the Avs are 25th. - Steven_Seagull
no way jose, that pair has been dominate as a 1st pairing the Avs had had in a long time. Fancy Stats show they are solid.
Avs shooting less than 4% as a team and having some real bad puck luck PDO is hurting them. Team can't score |

How come no one ever talks that he's a local kid too!
BRING EM HOME!! MARNER, BROWN. Keep them coming!
Wayne Simmonds next. We need culture on this team.
(frank) defense. Put 4 forwards on until we find them. |

I haven't watch a single Avs game, so I have no clue if you're right. I'll just assume the opposite position and say it's because they can't defend. |

No defense hasn't been bad, they have usually won the puck possession battle most games. They have been snake bitten, either can't score or Varly has been very soft letting in deflating goals.
Not a bad team, just frustrating to see a better team play and not get the Wins yet. They will solidify soon, everything is trending to them picking up way more wins |

everyone has their own opinion. i think he is far from an elite talent. someone who has no problem grinding which every team needs. problem is they are a dime a dozen |

The Leafs have 1st round picks that appear to be turning into stars and late round picks turning into depth players. This is a lot better than previously where their 1st round picks were turning into depth players and their late picks never did poop all. |

He does, just consistency. He becomes too predictable at times, gets shut down too easily when he goes back to the well.
Still a solid player, never will be Elite but damn good |

You can't keep saying he's far from elite talent when he's never been positioned as one. You create this unattainable, negative view on the kid that was never expected.
He's going to be a decent third liner who can chip in, which every team needs.. at the right price. You need these players too. |

He was drafted in the 6th round, he's not going to be elite...... Get rid of him. |

And there was a time when Nonis would throw 2nd round picks at teams to get this type of player. Much better to draft and develop a late rounder to fill the role.

Hot Take, its extremely tough to score 70 plus points in this league.
2016-16 17 players had 70+ Points
2014-15...just 19 players
2013-14...18 Players
The variety of offensive talent in this league scoring in the 60 point range, its an exceptional season when you finally break that 70 point mark, and even more rare to be a ppg player in a season

I'm not saying it's easy but we're talking about a first overall pick. I don't think in this instance it's unreasonable expectations. Plus if you look at many of those guys leading the league they were first overalls. |

I think he will do it eventually, but hes only 21 years old (turning that in September)
When he is 23-24 and still can't crack that mark then I would be getting worried bc then its a sign he never will crack it.
People just assume that if you are 1st overall that you should be on fire out of the gate, especially if you enter the league at 18. He played 3 years under Roy and got jerked around the roster, asking to do things he should have to do. Now he is under a new coach. He hasn't had the best start to his NHL career when it comes to coaching stability. I dont have any issues with MacK and what he has done up to date. If he had Bednar to start his career instead of Roy, I think he would be 70 point player already |
