Corsi was 37.5....not miles better than anyone last night.
- Garnie

He hasn't played in weeks? 37.5 is better than smith on the season? Holland season total is like 7th on the team?

tbh... IF the flames were shopping him (and i sincerely doubt they are, taking a call and actively shopping a guy are two very different things) that would be a big ass red flag for me.

why would two GMs want to get rid of someone after only a couple of years who is young and has top 4 if not top 2 upside?

screams "problems"

Blurb from a smear campaign...

It isn't just money, though. Oh, hell no. It turns out Hamilton has been secretly drowning puppies this entire time. Or at the very least, everyone hates him:

"It was surprising," said one NHL assistant GM. "It’s obvious there’s something going on that we don’t know about. From what I’ve heard behind the scenes, his teammates don’t like him. I heard he’s a loner and sort of an uppity kid, and that his teammates don’t like him and it was unanimous."

i am not saying he is like that... but if he is actively being shopped it does raise some questions at the very least... why? his contract isnt unreasonable by any stretch.

I remember they said something similar when he was traded from Boston. Didn't believe it, but maybe there's something to this supposed character flaw.

Ya...if Hockeybuzz ruins them...they should be looking for a new career.

But it's ok to bash JVR/Bozak/Polak/Hunwick/Gardiner etc etc...but don't dare post any talk about Matthews/Marner/Nylander.

It's a forum to discuss the Leafs....all of them I would hope.

- Garnie

Nylander played like poop last night I thought

This was after the Boston trade to Calgary - so it is Boston...take it with a grain of salt.

Jumbo Joe was a problem too.

tis the nature of young players... when it comes to their play its gonna be a rollercoaster... lots of highs and lots of lows.

looking forward to when these kids find consistency... but its not going to be this year... well.. maybe towards the end of the year potentially... skill is one thing, learning how to utilize it day in and day out consistently is quite another

my guess is 2 years from now will be when we see a more complete and level play from these guys game to game.

I agree.
It's already fun to watch now, and will only get better..
Marner i think already plays quite 'mature', Nylander still a bit 'junior' (needs to be more consistent) and it seems Matthews needs to get used to the heavy nhl schedule.
I agree with some on hear that last few games he looked very 'weak'. You can see he's an exceptional player, but just not 100% right now.

of course... but how do you measure competitiveness?

standings?

point production?

team defense?

etc...

for me, so long as hey compete game in and game out ... i dont expect this team to make the post season...i would love it if they did and want them to, but i dont actually expect it.

ahhhh... the nhl slump

where nothing ever seems to go right for a player

truth be told... him learning how to play through one and how to get himself out of it is probably one of the most important lessons to learn... so maybe, while frustrating, it is better overall in the long run.

I mean I expect them to be a playoff team without question, and striding towards being better every year. The glaring issues with this team are inexperience and weak defence. Both go hand in hand, and both are correctable with time.

Oilers history scares me a bit there. The D thing is a tough one to sort out...almost as tough as finding a #1 center.

The Leafs have some good defensive prospects, though. And I expect them to trade for a defenceman eventually, just perhaps not this season. The Oilers seemed to ignore that issue, while the Leafs just need patience with their kids.
