I don't remember specifically when it was but I mentioned in here over a 3-4 game stretch that Matthews wasn't looking all that great in those games and nobody took a dump on my chest over it. Probably because I didn't call everyone a homer, I don't know.
He hasn't been perfect and he has had some less than good games but overall he's been so much better than I thought he would be as a rookie and it's pretty easy to see that he will be good so I'm ok with everything. He was good tonight too. - daeth
I get out of hand, when I can't express an opinion without people putting words in my mouth and ignoring half of what I say... which is par for the (frank)ing course around here. |

It appears to be constant after games. Sorry if I don't read every post in every thread, and remember them all down to the punctuation.
Did anybody actually say Matthews is a perfect player? Did anybody actually say he doesn't have anything to work on? When he makes a bad play, does no one mention it?
So, let's look at where we've gotten so far. It's fine for you to hyperbole; wrong if someone else does it mockingly. It's fine for you to put words in other people's mouths; wrong if someone is parodying you. It's fine for you overreact on bad plays/habits; wrong if someone praises good plays/habits.
- Steven_Seagull
Where have I hyperbole'd.
I do not expect you to know everything I post. I expect you have more of a life than that, even for a rat pigeon.
What I do expect is that you won't pick the parts you don't like and then extrapolate it into stuff I didn't say.
Again, where was my hyperbole?

Just don't poop on my head because I don't believe it is good luck. I think a Seagull made up the roomer out of self-preservation.

So, you are questioning my arguments, and fighting back with stuff I have not said yet?
Solid man, you're doing great!
By the way... Andersen still is not very good. He had a couple average games and the got the tongue bath of his life from a fan base starved for even average goaltending the last how ever many years. But yeah I was wrong there too. - Aetherial
Hes had some rough outings but man that defence. He needs some help.

Comparing Matthews to JVR - Steven_Seagull
Funny... because when I typed it was the first I thought of it.
I have long not been a huge JVR fan. I wanted him gone for a Dman, although I also recognized they needed someone out there who has played and had some success.
My "criticisms" would be similar, but no, he is no JVR. Even after 12 (13?) games, it is pretty clear the kid has way more than JVR ever did.
... Man I just feel like he could take the puck and go wide and drive the net and be unstoppable. Unfortunately not now, but 3 years from now.
and yeah, I have noticed the bad puck luck the last 2 games. |

Oh that defense is putrid. Sadly Rielly had a rough game today after an awesome night last night. He is still young.
That is why I haven't commented much on Andersen. I still wish he wasn't over playing the guy with the puck so much.

I want Marner to win rookie of the year. He is the guy who I look forward to watching these days.

Leafs best player by far this year. Put him with Matthews, Babcock! |

Kadri is probably the Leafs best player this year, but Marner is the most consistently dangerous I think. |

Nylander, Marner, Matthews. That's the order I'd go. Marner hasn't been expected to carry his line and do all the dirty work though so he's sort of had an easier time than Nylander and Matthews so it's tough to compare them fairly but he's been flashy. |

Relax.......Matthews is doing well. His stick handling in the offence zone is top notch, he plays a 200ft game and comes back a breaks up plays, he's hit like 8 posts/cross bars in the past 5 game, and he's on pace for like 60 points that said! He will fine tune things and get better and better.
Nylander is much better this year after putting in 20 games last year.
Marner is great on the fly but does not stick handle like Matthews.
Lainne is one dimensional......stands there and shoots. Sure he has a good shot. So what......in the end do you pick Crosby or Ovechkin? Leafs needed a Centre and they got a great one.......give them and him, time.....they just need a good experienced Leader on D. On the other hand JVR is showing that he may not be a fit anymore, so perhaps there is an opportunity for a swap for a D there!? |

Was he happy with 1 SOG from Matthews, or is he the currect holder of the Leafs free pass on poopty performance. - Aetherial
The free pass holder on poopty performance was put in place to counter balance the obligatory position of whipping boy of unreasonably high expectations. I'm not sure who the current holder of that most envious position is. Anyone want to throw out some nominees? |

Matthews playing as well as expected. I don't know how you can say otherwise. He's 19 yrs old playing a prime position and he's controlling play more often than not and showing a Complete 200ft game. I don't know what more you'd want or expect? |

I think Matthews has been quite dominant. Most shifts he's the best player on the ice. His stick handling and ability to protect the puck is unreal. The puck will start going in eventually. |
