agreed but they need to turn the corner

if they go to ot, 9 times out of 10, it seems it's a loss

time to open up and try to get that 2 goal lead instead of trying to hang on to a 1 goal lead for 40 minutes

god I wish we had an offensive minded head coach

Good point - Do you think after losing out on Babcock , they were more concerned with getting a big name and not a coach that fits the style of the talent they were assembling?

I think disco needs to tell these kids to just go out there and skate their asses off...pressure pressure pressure....if we give up 2 on 1's so be it...this team plays best when it is applying a heavy forcheck...it plays it's worst when we are sitting back trying to be defensive.

That strategy can change when we have Eichel back...but for now its not working because we don't have the firepower to win in OT or a shootout

Yeah, when they did that last night they made the devils make mistakes, and I think it was the first time I saw them send 2 guys in regularly, at least early in the game, all season long.

It's tough to know what to expect with this team.

Preseason everybody believes we would be OK - even pretty good - in the Top 6, but that we had big questions in the pipes and that our D would be disappointing. As we work our way into the second month of the season, the D is among the league's leaders, and everybody is praising the goalies so far. The problem is we tie every fracking game 1-1 and lose in OT or shootout. We can't score.

I think it's another manifestation of the same problem we had last year - but it's showing in a different place. Even if you're only missing one or two top end talents, and have to play guys over their talent level, it affects the entire team because everybody winds up playing in a spot they shouldn't be.

I see it a little differently. The D isnt good at all, they've just been instructed to remove all risk from their game to compensate for the fact that the they are missing key pieces of their top 9, hence the lack of offense from them. I am certain that once the team is healthy again and they start opening it up more the flaws will show like they did last year. They're trying to win 2-1 now because they have no choice, thats pretty much the only way this team as is stays competitive.

I see after they got killed 7-0 by the kings Babcock gave them the
"Miracle line treatment " and made them skate in the dark doing skating drills

It worked

Im not sure i totally understand but my point was they wont get there, not like this. At some point theyll have to open things up as a team, which means more responsibility on the d-core, and its unlikely that they'll be able to handle that.

Home and homes and always fun. It was a surprisingly entertaining game last night. We got lucky on that Greene penalty shot. Greene works real hard and is extremely underrated so it was good to see him get it. I am sure you would disagree. Looking forward to tonight

I should have bought tickets to both games and visited my friends in Hamburg. Maybe next time.

Looks like your boys have been playing pretty well despite the injuries. What is the status on getting everyone healthy.. weeks months?

- TRDevil

I thought Greene looked good last night. Definitely noticeable. Sabres had a chance late in the game that Greene shut down. We got this young guy named Nick Baptiste. There is a lovefest over how blazing fast he is around here. You'd swear he's gonna be the next Mike Gartner. Somehow Greene was able to cut the speedster off and prevent a break away. Then, another one of our speedsters Evander Kane couldn't stop Greene on a breakaway without grabbing him.

ROR being injured is going to hurt if he isn't playing tonight. Devils really took it to the Sabres the last half of the game and Evander Kane made sure our PKer's would be good and tired for tonight's game.

We also are at the easy portion of the schedule. We have Blues, Pens, Lightning after tonight.

I posted yesterday that I know there will be a regression to the mean, but for now, everyone said "let's go .500 with Eichel and then Kane out" Well we're .500, does it matter how we do it?

I also think you're mistaken if you think that they're going to "open it up" significantly. Sure you might get the occasional pinch, but it's not going to be a 4 man rush any more than it already is. Risto is still pretty aggressive.

No it doesn't, but as pointed out, the schedule gets significantly tougher after tonight. They're treading water like many of us said they need to, but there is a massive wave coming, and it remains to be seen whether they can stay afloat. They need to find some goal scoring from somewhere, fast, which isn't something I thought I would need to say, even with Eichel out.
