The Sabres never intentionally tanked until the McEichel draft. Prior to that they were just a crappy team.

They still had vets like Miller, Leino, Stafford, TAllinder, etc, etc in the lineup.

It wasn't until the year after they got rid of everything they could.

They weren't tanking, they were just terrible.

Right now Sam is a late first-round pick he's not playing like a player I was promised

No. they didn't. The next year awas the year they got rid of anyone and everyone capable of playing hockey. If anyone played too well, it earned them a ticket out of town.

The only players they dumped that year were players with expiring contracts. That's not really a "tank". that's just smart asset management.

It is when he's a year older than everyone else he was the most NHL ready prospect in the draft with Ekblad .. And now you're seeing everyone in his draft class produce more than him and even younger when he should be ahead of the curve where ekblad is

Leon has 2 more pts in 1 extra game, the other Sam has less in 1 more game, Virtanen is back in the minors again I believe. The only ones that have "significant" points more than him are Ehlers and Nylander so it isn't like he's getting blown out of the water by his own class at all.

He did his best with Jack. Jack is not there. Samson is a playmaker, he creates with vision. With Jack not being here there was going to be a regression...

There's Ekblad, then about 4 or 5 other players all in the same caliber, from that draft. Bennett, Reinhart, Draisatl, Nylander, Ehlers. It pretty much comes down to personal choice.

But Ekblad is in another tier, and the only real franchise cornerstone player there.

My mistake. What i'm getting at is after the team was so bad and seemed we were gonna end up with the top pick, start planning . We needed a center and not Ekblad. Sam was / is the better center . Playmaker type. Needs a finisher (jack) How many finishers are in our lineup atm ? Our GF shows it.

If you look at the 2013 to 2014 roster you understand what I'm talking about that team was absolute horsepoop

The 2014-2015 had a better stacked roster if you look at it then he just moved everyone at the deadline to ensure we would be the worst in the league
