Actually Tru-D'Oh took away the Public Transit pass tax credit just last week.

Please list the jobs that are available to students that would allow them to pay for a year of tuition while working over the course of a summer.

And if the money actually goes into improving transit, as outlined in the budget, that's good.

The TTC, for example, is one of the least subsidized transit systems on the planet, and no amount of tax credits is going to fix what needs to be fixed.

People aren't avoiding taking the TTC because it's expensive, they avoid taking it because it sucks.

They may need to start working as soon as grade 9, part time during the school year, and full time during summers, leading up to their graduation year. This combined with their parents investing at least the amount to qualify for the max matching funds, from the government, in a RESP starting the day after they're born, should be more than enough.

There is also the option of taking a "Co-Op or placement program" at pretty much any University, in a field of study, that is generally at least one year longer, and allows for students to spend a number of semesters working, and getting well paid, with possible future employers, who work with Universities. I know of many students that worked for various employers over five years, and made at least enough to pay for two years worth (four semesters) of Tuition alone.

It can be done, it is being done, and has been done for decades.

See, but you're bringing up their parents again... What if their parents can't/didn't do that?

So you're saying that your future can be determined by your luck of the draw at birth....

Oh, and you still didn't answer the (frank)ing question.

the first paragraph assumes that the family's financial situation allows for this. Very often it does not.

Co-op positions are meant to teach you about the industry you want to get into, and the best ones rarely pay, and many only pay a stipend that covers transit or food. There are also very few spots available, and you usually have to maintain a high GPA to stay in the program- something that's harder to do if you're busy working to pay for school.

I did two co-op terms, the first one was actually pretty generous as far as salary went, but had very little to do with what I was studying. The second one was basically a scam for a groupon-style company that wanted extremely cheap salespeople, but that wasn't clear until you committed to them.

Co-op goes by another name: internships. Plenty of ink has been spilt talking about how companies abuse these programs for free labour.

Dopps, list the currently available jobs.

Do not post an article about how it is possible with the support of parents.

We will assume that this is a person of average intelligence with average grades and parents who are unable to financially provide for them.

Do not post a list of scholarships.

Simply provide a list of jobs that are currently available that a person with a mere high-school education can get that would allow them to afford a university education while being self-reliant.

I, for one, think those trump voters in the rural parts of the country who lost their manufacturing jobs need to buck up, go get an education and get a real job.

If their Parents prioritized annual trips to the Caribbean in the winter, living "pay cheque to pay cheque" because of spending more money on wants instead of needs, subscribing to higher cost Cable/Cellphone packages than they needed to, owning two cars instead of one and many other choices ............ then why should taxpayers cough up their money in higher taxes, to pay for their poor parenting skills?

I speak from experience and from observation, I know it can be done...... it' choice between saving for your child's education, or unnecessary perks that you can do without once you make the decision to have children.

Do you honestly believe the primary reasons for the explosion of student loan debt are parents prioritizing vacations over education and students not committing themselves to summer time work?

I speaking from the perspective of Canada, and Canadian Universities only.

I know it's a much different situation in the USA, and it not anywhere near as Bad in Canada.

The much much higher cost of Tuition, and built in education for profit motive that most US Universities are now motivated by.

Too many courses being offered in fields that the workforce could not possibly accommodate if all graduates look to work in those sectors, once they graduate. By then it's to late, and they then realize they were "sold" a course program with no other motive than to sell them what they wanted, and not an education with a hope in hell of every finding a well paying job.

Parents and students need to research what jobs are needed in today's economy, and take those courses, not ones that only satisfies someones interests that have no future once they graduate.

It's cute that you think employers care about which courses you take. They care about experience and you get experience in college and high school by doing internships and you get the best internships by willing to work for free and you can work for free if mommy and daddy are able to pay for your poop.

I have never been asked about a course I took during an interview. All they want to know is my major and my gpa.

Doesn't your major depend on the courses you took?
