Funny enough, it's not that different in the city. I used to rent a place on a street where homes went for millions of dollars, and the next street over (George street) is home to some of the most miserable conditions you'll see in the city, where garbage can fires in winter aren't at all out of place.

please answer his post where he says your assuming a lot and then ends with a stereotypical assumption.

What a typically conservative generalization.

And also, great grasp of numbers there. 1 = a lot. Fantastic stuff.

I don't watch news on TV.

I listen to podcasts, and research stories that interest me.

And by research, I don't mean going to the nearest echo chamber, and then vomit the cartoons I see there, here.

But what's the benefit of this? At the end of the day, immigrants, whether they come here legally or not, help a lot more than they hurt.

If the concern is that these people are dying in the woods... this doesn't solve that. They're just going to run into the same problem somewhere else. Sure, they're not dying on your border, but they'll be just as dead somewhere else.

The humanitarian answer is to pay for patrols to bring them in, and then take them through the process of getting integrated.

The economical answer is probably to let them find their own way, and start contributing when/if they find a way to safety.

Kicking them out, or preventing them from getting in doesn't help anybody.

I don't think we should check passports or ID's at airports either! What could go wrong?

So would you say you seek out opposite POVs to whatever the "story" is about?

Would you be willing to recommend some of the Podcasts you listen to?

I don't look for points of view, I look for facts.

As for podcasts: the daily, this American life, radio lab, both of Dan Carlin's shows, BBC documentary, on the media, and pod save America/the world.

That's why I've been recommending for years now, that people should force themselves to watch/read/listen to POVs or news outlets that do NOT agree with your POV.

For example ....... I watch CBC News Network's Power & Politics almost on a Daily basis, Power Play on the CTV News Network, ABC's World News tonight, and also a lot of CNN, some MSNBC........... I could go on, but the point is that I make a point of watching/listening/reading contrary POVs than those I tend to side with.

On a point made earlier, about how Progressive automatically play the Race Card on pretty much every issue..............Here's an example for today's news .....

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, said in an interview Thursday that the ongoing investigation into her former IT staffer, Imran Awan, is the result of racism.

Of these Podcasts ........ are any of them challenging your POV on any given subject?

As much as I doubt this is true, it really doesn't matter. If your mind is made up, you're not watching that stuff to challenge yourself, you're watching to validate your opinion of the other side.

Actually, today's episode of The Daily did a great job of breaking down both sides of the affirmative action issue. Worth a listen.

But like I said, I don't listen to these things for any particular point of view. I do it to hear about things that I wouldn't necessarily hear otherwise, and if I find something interesting, I read up on it.
