Because that isn't happening with the defense. Another year isn't gonna turn this chicken poop defense into chicken salad
- WingmanWillie

Another year gives them another year to add to/improve the D when the right opportunity arises as opposed to trying to force it.

If it comes down to the Leafs needing 1 defenseman to turn their team around and compete, yeah they might.

Until then, they can afford to wait.

Taking a page out of the book of the Edmonton Oilers. They waited way too long to get a d man when there were opportunities and they were forced to make a Panic move and traded Hall for one

Maybe a look at moving JVR or Kadri for some D help.

They were forced to make a panic move, traded Hall, and suddenly went from 2nd worst in the league to Western Division OctoCup champs. Anyway, I forget which argument I was supporting.

It's not a great value trade but it made the whole team better.

And Larsson is still improving.

It's not that bad of an idea if it makes your team better.

The name is Timothy Liljegren. He wont cost the leafs anything when he is drafted next summer.
Add Travis Dermott in the mix who would already be on the leafs if not for the logjam.
All of a sudden the leafs have a very decent young top 4 (Reilley/Zaitsev).

It just might take a year or two. The leafs absolutely do not need to trade to try to win now by making trades.

The leafs team need to learn (skills) on the ice.
The leafs fans need to learn (patience) off the ice.

This might be one of those situations where they're sellers leading up to the deadline, but instead of targeting picks, they use their scouts to identify some prospects that are being held back by depth that could make an impact as early as this year...

Don't forget about Nielsen! Also, Nylander leads the team in scoring.

I'm pretty sure the logjam that you're referring to is usually cleared up by the skilled use of a plunger.

I'm not convinced that adding dermott or nielsen is going to make the top 4 decent any time soon. They're good prospects but probably not very good NHL players yet.

He lost me at Dermott being on the team if not for the logjam.

Percy 2.0 needs some time with the Marlies before he is even close to ready for the NHL

Shattenkirk would be a good add as a FA, if they could get him

I completely agree.... lets pump and dump for defensive help. I'd love it if we could acquire a solid young-ish defenceman. Unfortunately the reality is they're likely going to have to come from within the organization. Very few teams have enough depth to start dishing guys out.... with the exception of maybe LA? Muzzin? or McNabb? They need an offensive boost. They're scoring ~2goals/game. And haven't scored for two straight games.
