I've noticed a couple solid hits he's laid at our blue line...I think it may even be rubbing off on Gardiner as he seems to be a bit more aggressive lately.

Most of us did.
However, had Anderson played decent for a couple of the early games,we could have easily won two more games. Which would put us on par with the jets for wins.
In fact, I think we are only 1 pt behind them.

It really is a process. Leafs have to continue to develop the young guys they have, look for trades, and draft well. All of those things especially relating to the blueline. They've got to keep working on that issue.
I'd tend to agree that Nielsen is the blueliner I'm most excited by in the prospect pool. A nice combination of skills that could make him a very useful part of the lineup in the future. Just has to keep on developing. You hope when possible to find a guy like that in the third round who just is beyond expectations.
It is a journey ahead. Will have some good games and some bad ones. They just have to make sure not to lose themselves in the bad games. Keep progressing.
Polak will (hopefully) be moved at the deadline. Unfortunately, we won't be enjoying a haul that's anywhere close to what we received for him last year (2 x 2nd round picks???)
I feel bad for Corrado. Let the poor kid play. He can't possibly be worse than Marincin. Or just cut him loose. Clearly he hasn't proven enough to be part of this team
I'd be open to testing Gardiner's value on the open market. The stats geeks seem to love him, so maybe someone will bite. I watch every Leafs game - the guy isn't bringing anything special to the table. If we could package him along with a couple of our higher-end prospects (Kap, Bracco, etc), in exchange for a quality d-man (Trouba), I'd be all over it
Valiev and Loov are depth guys - not much ceiling there. So we've really gotta hope Nielsen and / or Dermott demonstrate top-four potential. At this point, that's a complete crap shoot
Would love to see next year's d corps look like this:
Rielly - Zaitsev (assuming we can bring him back at a reasonable rate)
Dermott / Nielsen - Trouba
Carrick - Draft Pick (looking like we'll be selecting top 7 or 8)
Loov
