That's another leg to the idea I have that the Flyers are kind of lukewarm on keeping Mason past this season.

Maybe I'm wrong. I like Mason. He's a good goalie.

- Jsaquella

I really like Mason, but I am not going to lie and say the injuries dont worry me. If he falters this year I dont see a return.

Ever since Reese left it hasn't been as good with him imo. The inability to stop breakways is also kind of blah. I like him overall, and hope he rebounds.

Both Mason and Neuvirth are much better goaltenders than they have shown to this point. Success begets success. The team as a whole, has played poor structurally with lots of coverage breakdowns and puck errors. I think once that's cleaned up, it will allow the goaltenders to get in a rhythm and find their games. I'd also wish we'd stop blaming mistakes made by young players, on other players. Veterans have made plenty of their own mistakes, and that's on them. Same for players like Gostisbehere and Provorov. We should be accepting a lot of the mistakes they make, as part of the growing pains process, rather than making excuses and blaming other players for them.

I personally don't see any indication that Mason's issues are physical. You've repeatedly brought up Reese leaving. That's a non issue. Goaltending coaches don't have that much of an impact on a player with Mason's experience.

I don't see any reason he shouldn't rebound. He's overcome slows starts in the past and been very strong. Both goalies have had injury issues in the past, so it's not just Mason to have concerns over there.

Either way, it's not the end of the world. There's a few good goalies in UFA this summer and there's always a trade possibility.

All the young guys Detroit waived and lost are going back on waivers. Pulkkinen was waived by Minnesota, and now Frk.

Very true. I wonder what another year of subpar PK will do for Lappy. Surprised he wasn't let go this summer.

My only issue is if we have to move on from both we end up with the same old repeated ad nauseum story. The issue in Philly is goaltending.

I dont care if they get a new guy if someone better is available. I just dont want another Bryzgalov. Big name, big money and falls on his face. Bishop scares the poop out of me.

It was the same old story for some even when Mason was having a Vezina worthy season.

Agree with most of this. Ghost has been pretty bad while Provorov has been inconsistent. I think they'll come around. I don't care where Provorov projects, its not ideal for a 19 yoa rookie to be leading in TOI. Don't care if its 19 yoa Bobby Orr. So what we have is a razor thin defense that is injured to start the year. They don't have a top pairing D even when their all healthy, its just the reality of it. Provorov is a 19 yoa getting 22+ mins a night prior to playing 10 games. Its not ideal for him or for the team, he's making mistakes, and I'm ok with it. But he is making some bad mistakes out there that are on him as well as making high end plays. It's all part of the growth.

Ghost is young as well and he needs to get his game together

I am scared to admit the kids have issues. In fear that they won't develop. I choose to not ever blame them for my own sanity.

No question, he has a lot put on his plate. I think it's pretty amazing how good he is at 19. So with the responsibilities he has, it's expected that there is going to be ups and downs. What you look for is how he bounces back, if he loses confidence. If he changes his game and stops being aggressive. Neither Provorov or Gostisbehere have done that, despite mistakes. That shows what kind of players they are. Just have to ride it out.

There is zero doubt in my mind that Provorov, Konecny, and Gostisbehere are all going to be big time players for the Flyers.

It's not based on optimism. It's based on an objective view of what I see on the ice. How many Flyers games have you seen this year?
