It goes both ways, yes.
Schneider is a prime example right now. - Scabeh
I never want to see Marincin or Hunwick again, whether Andersen has 5 shutouts in a row or not |

except Hunwick...he is no good - senstroll
And Marincin, he's garbage too. Just soft as butter, never can clear the d zone, giveaway machine

That's weird. HockeyDB has 6.
I imagine Marlies website is correct. I think Nielsen will be a fine 2nd pairing dman.
We need 2 1st pairing legit dmen then everything else just slots in. It's how Polak looks good in St Louis, Schultz looks good in Pittsburgh, Seidenberg in Boston, Franson in Nashville (1st time around), Leddy in Chicago, Boychuk in Boston, etc.
List is endless - walshyleafsfan
So true, Walshy, so true. We have a lot riding on this Nielsen kid. |

It has been brought up a couple times, and I personally would do it.
Many on here won't, but hopefully Lou sees the value in it and takes Babcock's Hunwick toy away (as Steve Dangle would say) |

McIlrath is ready to be a #4 or #5 defenseman right now. He's very, very solid and poised with the puck. Whichever team claims him is going to get a solid NHL contributor who could still surprise and turn into a legit #3. |

Hoping Greenway somehow turns out to be fantastic at hockeying as well
It's more wishful thinking than anything, but here's to hoping. |

Bergevin will claim him if he makes it to the Habs.

I'll bite. Why did the Rangers waive a #4 D? |

I don't even think the Leafs could claim him could they?
I thought Seth brought them to 50 contracts

AV never gave him a great chance. He doesnt seem to have much use for the rugged dman who doesnt move the puck as fast as possible |

If we are talking the stud #1 a la Doughty/Weber/Pietrangelo, then I agree the Leafs do not yet have one of those.
That said, it's basically unanimous that the Leafs are not over the hump just yet anyway. Rielly and Zaitsev are able to adequately play top pair right now, this season.
The other defence are terrible. That's all I'm saying. We need to upgrade on the riff-raff, which should be substantially easier than acquiring a stud #1 dman - WingmanWillie

I'm not a big defender of Marincin... but I'd definitely like to see him play a few more games at 3LD rather than 1RD before completely burning the boats on him. At this moment, what do we have to lose (beyond games, of course - which we're doing anyway!)? |

Filling the total # of contracts so you can grab Ben Smith of waivers is a Nonisesque move. Whether McIlrath is worth claiming or not. |
