You're right, but we don't need a top pairing Dman.
Rielly-Zaitsev have been fine
It's everyone else who sucks.
What I'm saying is if you can move Leo (for example) for a Dman that is of the same talent level, that's better than what we have now.
Any forward for D "hockey trade" would upgrade the Leafs defence more than it currently is - WingmanWillie
What are you going to get for Komo though? You will have to had prospects or picks to get a 3-4 dman. |

Ya I saw what he was trying to hint.
A pioneer, man!
Like he's the only one who has ever offered up a bad trade on here.
Come on, whats he thinking! |

Nielsen has 5 pts in 6 games as an AHL rookie so far. That's promising, but yeah, if this NHL top 4 blossoming happens, it will likely take until after next season. - 1979AD
Nielsen has 6 in 6.
Next year he might be able to make it. Brandon Carlo, who was a 2nd round pick last year is already in the NHL |

Yeah, but at this point I would be fine adding a 5-6 that isn't a liability.
Hunwick, Marincin, Polak are
I'd add Corrado to that list except we will never know since Babcock despises Italians or something |

Eventually but you will never acquire one unless you draft them, so it's gonna be a while |

Rielly is good enough to play top pair on Team NA, Zaitsev on team Russia, but neither is good enough to be top pair on the Leafs??

5 in 6 according to the Marlies site: http://www.marlies.ca/tea.../IndividualStatistics.asp
I'm talking about blossoming into a top4, not just making the NHL. |

Neither Rielly or Z are a #1
Rielly may be in the future but if we are going to poop on guys for their CF% then Rielly is right near the top of the poop list. 💩 |

Just my opinion, but Rielly was playing with the #1 Ekblad on team NA and I have no idea about Russia but Z has been ok but not blowing my socks off yet. |

Just thought it odd a guy who's scored in every other game would be invisible. - 1979AD
Well... from the games I've watched, I felt I hadn't seen him as involved in play as much as some of his counterparts. |

If we are talking the stud #1 a la Doughty/Weber/Pietrangelo, then I agree the Leafs do not yet have one of those.
That said, it's basically unanimous that the Leafs are not over the hump just yet anyway. Rielly and Zaitsev are able to adequately play top pair right now, this season.
The other defence are terrible. That's all I'm saying. We need to upgrade on the riff-raff, which should be substantially easier than acquiring a stud #1 dman |

That's weird. HockeyDB has 6.
I imagine Marlies website is correct. I think Nielsen will be a fine 2nd pairing dman.
We need 2 1st pairing legit dmen then everything else just slots in. It's how Polak looks good in St Louis, Schultz looks good in Pittsburgh, Seidenberg in Boston, Franson in Nashville (1st time around), Leddy in Chicago, Boychuk in Boston, etc.
List is endless |

Who knows, maybe Nielsen will be able to log top 4 minutes next year - TheMussel
might be stretch; if we want effective top 4 minutes.
it may take a couple years in the nhl to become an effecive top 4 dman. |
