He's on pace for 41 goals.

not exactly a huge sample size, and I was just expressing an anecdotal opinion

I get that. Maybe a deadline callup after a bunch of the UFAs are moved for peanuts
- WingmanWillie

but I do agree our D is horrible and that's why Andersen has been as bad as he has

not all his fault, this D does much too much standing around watching

The Rangers just put Dylan McIlrath on waivers this afternoon. You guys could do worse than to add him to the fold. Not a superstar and not too quick, but more poised and dependable than some of the guys you're dressing now. And at $800k/yr.

Just thought it odd a guy who's scored in every other game would be invisible.

It's getting to the point where I really feel like I need to see this team without Gardiner and Bozak on it. Seeing either player bothers me. And as a bonus the ghost of Honest Hockey can be put to rest.

I mentioned it earlier and it wasn't a popular idea.

That said, I know that he is better than Hunwick and Marincin both. And he is a big body and will clear the front of the net which is an asset we badly need in our D right now. Goal #2 against Tampa doesn't happen if Polak takes care of Killorn there

I feel like he'll be Marincin but slower and dumber.
- mykokes

I'm not sure I've seen dumber than Marincin.
McI has gotten a bad rap, just because he doesn't fit AV's system too well and AV will blindly play vets over youth (see Girardi & Staal last season )

Exactly.
I never said he would be Chara for you guys. Just an upgrade over what is on TO now and at a great price.

I was talking about trading JVR for a D

too early IMO

- Lucas.Neilson

Ohh I getcha

Yeah, I wouldn't trade JVR yet. Not a chance.

The thing is, even if we could move a guy like Holland, Smith, Komarov for a defenseman that is about the same calibre of player, it would be an upgrade on the current Dmen. Doesn't have to be a stud, just has to be reliable and not (frank)ing suck

JVR's name comes up in rumors every year I think and I don't know why. He's a guy your team should hold on to until he retires.
- Rinosaur

For me it comes down to asset management and team need. He's going earn a contract similar to what Okposo got when he gets to UFA, and I think that's too much for a player that isn't an elite player. He's a 1 LW right now on a very team friendly contract. That's such an excellent asset. This Leaf team needs more young defenders. They have some pretty good depth in scoring wingers. Yes the Nielsens and Dermotts could be top four NHL players, but why not try to turn JVR into one or two defencemen of that ilk for a higher probability of success?

Only move JVR for a stud. Bozak or prospect/pick package for a 3/4 guy is the other move. We have to hold tight if those deals aren't out there. JVR for a 3/4 guy would be a terrible move and we aren't getting a top pairing Dman for scraps.

Heading into the season I would disagree. But after the way the kids have been scoring, and the D sucking this hard, I would be behind trading JVR for a Larsson type. I wonder if NJD would have taken that deal if Taylor Hall wasn't available?

You're right, but we don't need a top pairing Dman.

Rielly-Zaitsev have been fine

It's everyone else who sucks.

What I'm saying is if you can move Leo (for example) for a Dman that is of the same talent level, that's better than what we have now.

Any forward for D "hockey trade" would upgrade the Leafs defence more than it currently is

Polak only redeeming quality is his physicality and he hasn't done it for poop this year (save for a moronic penalty)

i'd guess no. Hall is locked up long-term.

i think you get a similar age dman on a similar length contract or a package of picks/prospects for jvr.

Some good news, Scott Harrington wasn't claimed on waivers when he was demoted, so the Leafs keep their 5th round pick!

We still lose a 2nd round pick in this draft though because of the Andersen deal. The middle one, whichever that will be.
