So Rielly isn't on the 1st wave still? Why the (frank) would Gardiner be there?
- Scabeh

I don't get that either. Rielly is much better at shot generation, and it's not a handedness thing either as both are lefties.

Gardiner needs something to do out there. Otherwise he'd just be on the bench all day

As of today, the Leafs are 3rd in the NHL (1st in the East) with a 54.8% shot attempts/close.

This means they'll make the playoffs if they keep that up, right stats nerds, right?

They were basically average last year in that area too yet they finished last. Mmm goaltending

Not true. He does that skate around thing with his head tilted back after coughing up the puck and the opposing team scoring

Griffith makes Leafs debut tonight on line with Martin-Smith

Also getting PP reps on the Matthews/Nylander/Kadri/Gardiner unit

- burn

I feel like Griffith needs some good players around him to succeed. Can't see him being that good playing with 2 scrubs...

I guess we'll find out

Makes sense.

Wouldn't want Gardiner's parents to complain their son isn't playing as much as the other kids.

Pretty much. Babcock is afraid to use him 5 on 5 or 4 on 5.

Another possession darling.

Babcock has said already that he doesn't use Rielly on the PP because he likes to use him everywhere else.

... then trying to fight the coach in the hallway after the games.

(I'm not the only one who has experienced this in their youth right? It was fun playing in a predominantly Portugese and Italian area )

I know Babcock is considered as one, if not the best coach in the game right now.

But any other coach making calls like that would be called an idiot instantly.

I'm just saying.

Which is still a shame as we could get better results and maybe an extra goal or two with him there.

I almost tend to agree. Looking at the Leafs team stats, they're 6th on the PP. Not sure that's one of the areas that needs to be shored up.

If the PP is working regardless, keep your best D man off of it and give him more even strength and PK minutes.

The team stats look good across the board right now except for GA and Ws.

I think that he recognizes just how shallow this defense corps is - as time goes on and we get more players who can be relied on the protect leads and pull their weight then he can start to use Rielly better.

Essentially he doesn't want Rielly to have to deal with 25-30 mins a night.
