This may be the most ill-informed post of the evening. "One dimensional" like Brett Hull? Like "Holmstrom"? Like a myriad of other players that were "one dimensional"?

A hockey team is a "TEAM", not a bunch of Steve Yzermans or Joe Sakics. For every all round player (BTW we have one named Bo Horvat) you have a TEAM of complementary players.

Not all players need to be utility knives.

Yup.... got to work with what you have and get the best out of them blaming them for not being a rose when they are a Sunflower makes a dull bouquet of a team

My solution is to let the kid grow into the role that's expected of him, not have it all thrust upon him as a 20 year old.

Dude, it's not your board. Grow up and realize we all have opinions and yours isn't really better than anyone else's. You're just another schlub like the rest of us, get over yourself.

I suspect the reason other people are noticing this interaction is that they are OK with you getting put in your place because you're a bit of a jerk.

How about you actually contribute instead of dictating and vilifying? Maybe you'd come off as less of an areshole.

- PuckShack

Ive been interacting with vantel for years. He's usually been a decent guy here historically. When Ive read his posts that you seem to be upset with I dont see any issue. Sometimes you read something in a certain mood and it comes off a certain way. Since Im neutral here Im trying to point out that I think you're taking his words in an unintended way. Yet you are continually calling him an assh*le.
For the sake of peace I thought Id step in. Seems like you are upset tonight and reading things in a negative way and coming back with insults. WHy dont you step away from the computer for a bit and come back in a while.

He wrote an in depth and insightful post with a lot of thought to consider the different views being discussed

But what set him off was how Vantel dismissed it by not reading it ....

Look he makes good points and Vantel does as well let's just all respect each other and play nice in our sharing

Why don't you wake up and acknowledge this board has been owned/dominated by VANTEL? Why don't you step away from being afraid of Vantel and step the feck up. He is NOT the authority of Canucks history or think, you just let him be. He can be a great resource or a super-wiener.

He has called me both a great poster and a newb not worth listening to. He wields great power that is not warranted. He's not worth listening to. PERIOD.

So frankly, feck you. You want to protect an aresehole? Good for you. I'm a Canucks fan. I am a hockey fan 1st and foremost and a Canucks fan second. Idiots like VANTEL have NO place in hockey.

VANTEL thinks of himself as a kingpin. He has alot of lemming followers, get used to it. He thinks because he's been on the boards for years, he has original thoughts.

He's not a bad guy but he has an ego that is undeserved. He also has a following of folks that will attack you if you dare to challenge him.

Some of the folks here are the reason Canucks fans have a bad rep amongst other boards. I only dip in once in a while because the board is dominated by 2-3 regular posters that think their opinions are tantamount to others.

Sadly they believe because they speak alot that their voices are more valuable. They're not. They are just blowhards.

Entitled no... but you got your opinion WD Knows what he is doing and JV is a snot nosed kid who needs a heavy hand to shape up... ride the bus in the A kid and earn it .... no confusion there .... I see your single minded approach crystal clear ....

I just don't discount what you say and call your opinion 💩 ...
... guess being fair and discussing views is confusing

- Nuck4U

I am of the opinion that the GM has more than one place to develop JV. You are the one butting heads with people who think top 6 minutes in the AHL is another option. Me narrow minded for pointing this out? Nice spin...

Reading through the threads lately, you challenge non stop. So many petty things to nag about in this thread alone. Ease up a bit. We're old, we're tired and get off our lawn.

Virtanen is a pure North/South player with speed, size and a decent shot. While time in Utica may be worthwhile it would only be worthwhile if he is paired with players that are gifted enough to help him get his game together.

Having him play with 4th line plugs is a waste of everyone's time and is eroding his confidence. He needs to be paired on a line with either Horvat or Sutter if you want him to develop at the NHL level, period. He is too fast to play with the Sedins and his North/South game wouldn't work with their East/West.

For those that keep harping on sending him to Utica, I suggest you think about who he should play with down there. While I am not averse to the suggestion there isn't exactly a plethora of talent on the farm either. Jake is a thoroughbred that needs to skate to be successful, 7 or 8 minutes a night on a checking line is NOT development.

I could see Virtanen and Rendulic as a formidable combo of wingers with the right center, I'm just not sure we have that player in the farm system. So you pair them with Chaput? Wacey Hamilton or Curtis Valk? Talk about a lack of talent at center...

The Canucks need to be thinking long term and about developing chemistry with their farm team. The successful teams have players that come up together as units (or at least partial units). To date the Canucks have only been able to bring up individual "players".

The reason the top teams are successful is because they develop units of players, much like the 5 man units of the old Soviet system. The Canucks appear to be a decade behind.

I think it's unfair to say Virtanen believes he is entitled. I worked with a player that was a 3rd line center in the NHL for several years. Even years after retirement he felt his coach (Keenan) miscast him as a 3rd line center and he never had a chance to "flourish". That happens all the time in the NHL, it depends on the system you are playing in. In this case this guy was the prototypical 3rd line center, for Keenan's system.

I'm not knocking Jake or Willie hear. They may not be on the same page, but to say one is at fault is shortsighted. Jake is frustrated because the coach is utilizing him in a way that he thinks isn't optimal. What's wrong with being honest? Would you prefer he sucks it up and becomes an 8 minute 4th line grinder?

And before the obligatory criticisms come out. If you haven't played the game at a high level, rotating linemates SUCK. All players have different ways of moving the puck, positioning etc. As a young player it's hard enough to do your own job without trying to compensate for a turnstile of different linemates. Remember Jake is a pure North/South player with speed. Play him with other North/South players and he will be fine. Play him with a rotating group of aging vets, PTO signings and AHL callups then whine about his performance? OK.

- PuckShack

I agree more or less, but don't want him w/ the big club right now cuz he's not going to get top 6 minutes. Granlund Sutter Hansen has been the team's best line. Sven Bo Virtanen might work... but not sure he's made the most of the time he's been given at any point.

I prefer to see him in the A working with Green, while he's still coaching Utica, and learning the game and developing in all situations where he can be effective.
