They are almost even in Fenwick and positive in Scoring Chances. If they keep that up then the possession stats are showing Russell is performing better as an Oiler than he did as a Flame and Star player.
There are flaws in every stat and in every mode of analysis. He has a PDO of 108.8, if that drops to a normal 100 we arent talking about how great Russell has been. - Matt_Henderson
But this is just it, not sure I agree.
He's done a lot of little things well and solidified our second pairing into at the very least, NHL quality.
I dunno about you, but I'm not holding my breath every time he's on the ice in the defensive zone like so often in the past
I suppose it's possible that if his pdo was in fact closer to 100, we'd also be seeing on ice a much less effective player and how bad he's been might be very apparent. But I doubt it
I think he might be one of the perfect examples of flawed stats

Still early but I was a big doubter in your squad this year. Saw more of the same this year but so far, you guys are managing to win games. Would be nice to see you guys continue it, despite the inevitable James Tanner blogs. - rangerdanger94

That's possible, but all the Flames friends I have were happy to see him go, he wasnt good at all in Dallas, and 29 other teams passed on him in free agency.
Which is more likely: The analytics based on hundreds of games which fit THAT narrative are misleading, OR that 6 games of wacky high shooting percentage making him look great are misleading? I mean, I know where *I* stand on that.

I'd be willing to bet its somewhere in the middle. Who was Russell usually paired with during his poop stint in Calgary/Dallas?
Larsson has been abit overwhelmed at times, but he's getting more comfortable.
And I think he could get a lot better . And it's true he's a legitimate top 4 guy giving us a solid pairing.
But yeah, hall is truly elite. Straight up we lost that trade badly.
But building a better team and winning games is all that matters.
Plus- we don't free up the space for Lucic if we don't make the deal.
Larsson and Lucic > hall - HB77
I don't know what games you have been watching but Larsson is everything he was told to be. His been saving kelfbom alot in there own end. In the end hall will have 70 to 80 pts and be a plus 10. Larsson will be 20 to 30 pt dmen, but a plus 40. He can play 26mins a night against the best players. Todd is just not using him like that. He wants to play all 6 dmen right now.
