I agree that it was a pitiful performance last night and coaching had a lot to do with it...I won't do the research, and this isn't a poke at you so don't take it personally, but who was the last college coach, or even a coach outside of nhl organizations won a cup or even made it to the conference or Stanley cup finals?
- Michael Pachla

There haven't been many but I think the Flyers coach Hakstol coached in the NCAA. The jump is difficult but there are many college coaches who have developed their own talent and considering we are going to be a young team for the foreseeable future, it wouldn't be that outlandish.

I like Ward and Lambert that are in the organization now. If Lambert can do the job developing Nylander, Bailey, etc. down in Rochester and they have a successful season, it wouldn't surprise me if he is highly considered.

This is relative though because the other two pairings shouldnt even exist. Gorges on the top pair is criminal and our bottom pair last year was what weber and one eyed franson?

I do agree with your take on possession stats though, taken out of context they are misunderstood but in a lot of cases the twitter experts will cherry pick and exploit the fact that the average fan doesn't want to or is unable to look deeper.

Read my mind.

Bogosian is not good. Period. There is too much evidence even for someone biased as myself

The Sabres D is poo poo. If you're expecting to go to war with that group and win consistently then you're joking/fooling yourself. Gorges is not at #1 left shot D-man. Kulikov isn't that good either. I see them 2 and Bogo and Franson as 5,6,7,8 D-Men at best.

There is no #1 or 3, which this team needs in order to compete.

I see Risto and McCabe as 2 and 4 respectively.

I was going to suggest E.B. Farnum for Color analyst but I see he is under contract as Pierre McGuire.

The Pegulas haven't a clue when it comes to sports ownership.

That is becoming abundantly clear.

Russ Brandon must be purged from the organization.

The Sabres need a President of Hockey Ops to oversee GMTM. He is playing fast and loose with our assets, and so far the results aren't good.

He was pretty gun shy this off season. I was genuinely worried we were going to move 8th overall for fowler

He does nothing but sell tickets.

This misplaced blame on him from both orgs is laughable.

Agreed.

Btw, not that it matters to everybody, but the more I hear, the more it sounds like the World Juniors don't come back here without him, especially considering the fact that Buffalo hosted it the last time it was in the United States.

Was the game against Edm the best so far for Sabres? I remember being impressed with Risto and ROR in that one.

From the last blog:

I got pretty frustrated this morning when I heard Bylsma say in his presser that "we have to learn how to win those games."

I have a hard time believing the players unanimously came up with the plan to spend the entire last period off the forecheck and on their heels, or that any of them came up with the idea to pass the puck to the goalie during the OT.

- Der Kaiser

I agree it was a maddening trope to trot out, but what a lot of fans lose sight of, myself included, is that the other team has a say in what happens too. And that there's a middle ground between pedal to the metal and 5 shots in a period while yielding 19.

Kulikov was put in a damned if you do damned if you don't position on that hit last night. If you don't hit him he skates by you and then they have numbers in your zone and you've just taken yourself out of the play, and if you hit him, no matter how hard, it's at least an interference penalty. But if Larsson doesn't cough it up there, that doesn't happen and we could hold them off for another few minutes we likely get out of there with 2 points in regulation.

Tough not to be, they had 7 combined points in that one.

Gorges has only been playing just over 17 minutes a night this season-it'll go up a bit after last night-, and he played the 4th most minutes last night(21:33) Kulikov and Risto both had over 25 and Bogo had 22, McCabe 15 and Franson 14. Gorges is not the problem. He's the #1 in name only he doesn't actually play the role. Risto can be a #1 if he's not trying to play both positions at once, he's trying to be the offensive guy and then get back and be the shutdown guy, and his defense is suffering for that. We need someone like Lindholm, I would love to have him, but it's not possible, and I'm not saying we get him, just someone like him. A responsible in his own end defenseman and then you can turn Risto loose in the offensive zone. Shattenkirk would just multiply that problem.

100% yes on this. Disagree with shattenkirk though, the guy's a lot better defensively than he's given credit for. And more to the point his strength as a puck mover is something we desperately need.

He might as well be. He's better than Seabrook now IMO.

I think Mattias Ekholm would be a star on other teams too. Very under rated
