I heard none of this anti-Reinhart talk this offseason
It's only a few games in
Step away from the ledge
Kid is a good player, who happens to be very cerebral
He never was, and never will be "flashy"

- jdfitz77

Yes, but there is about a dozen kids in the league right now picked after him and in drafts after his that are playing sooooo much better than him. He may not be flashy, but he is showing absolutely chit! And, as for cerebral, when the hell are we going to see at least that?

I know it's early, and he's still young, but I see more lazy right now than anything else. Maybe it's time for some tough practices to get the point across.

The cerebral talk has to stop.
What, is he doing calculus on the bench while other guys are struggling to tie their skates?

It's the NHL, there are a ton of smart players

It's not fair to compare Reinhart to anyone from other drafts the way you're doing it. He doesn't compare to Eichel.

As far as cerebral goes we saw it plenty last year. All those plays around the net when he was completely free for a tap in, or a deflection. He's made some good passes this year, but overall he's been bad. I've posted it a few times, he just looks lost.

Right, if he was making constant no-look passes that his lesser talented teammates weren't ready for, then I would say his hockey sense was on another level, but I just don't see it. I have to face the facts because I've been defending him up to this point, but I'm getting tired of making excuse as to why development of players in this organization is either slow to non-existent. He a #2 overall, start doing something or get benched.

In a week he will be 21. That's prime for top picks. He needs to turn it around fast, and before Eichel comes back

I made that point just to compare age wise. He's a full two years older than Matthews and Laine, and in six games they've already looked like they're more of an NHL star then he'll ever be.

When Reinhart was at his best last year he was getting in front of the net and making life difficult for goalies. This year he has not done that at all, he hasnt gone to the front of the net he hasnt been setting up screens. Maybe he is trying to do too much while Jack is out but I have faith he will find his game. He still can feather passes to teammates, and he still sees plays develop before they happen. He has to up his compete level and his willingness to get to the dirty areas. This is one area I think Gionta could help him with. Gionta always sets up in front of the net and drives hard.

Anyway thats my take on the Reinhart situation, he may never put up the stats like Marner, Laine, or others but he can be a very effective player still.

Okposo and ROR need to get going as well. They have been quiet recently and they need to find some chemistry, and finish on the chances they are creating.

I get what you're saying, but the talent level is clearly different between the 2 drafts.

Agreed. It's just frustrating to see what is supposed to be talented players, don our jersey and somehow regress. I'm sick of seeing players development always slow to a crawl for us, or guys pulling a "Safford" after signing a new deal and just disappearing, or guys always with a muscle issue, or the flu, or the chits and they need more time off.

At this point, I want the meanest coach to have ever played the game to get in here and stop taking the excuses as to why the players can't perform.

No one is at any ledge. This is what is actually happening. Sam Reinhart has sucked so far this year. Coincidentally without his all world linemate

And a few of us said they would have traded him in a nanosecond to get a top pairing D

- sbroads24

Freaking out about a player with this year's TINY sample size,
After he had a BETTER than expected rookie year,
Is ridiculous

Even Crosby goes through bad stretches

Maybe we can just chill out on all this "Reinhart has sucked THIS year" talk

You're overreacting

Sam's gonna break out by Sunday. Swap him and Okposo. Get him back with O'Reilly and see if Okposo can get Ennis and Girgs going. 4 points this weekend causing Ripped Fuel to OD on creatine.

Reinhart talk aside...

Anyone have any insight on how the Ducks are allowed to be over the Cap right now?

By signing Lindholm,
Looks like they're around 5mil OVER

The team in general isn't playing well right now
It's been like 6 games

Saying Reinhart stinks is like saying Moulson is an all-star
I'd like to see more too...
But let's just calm down a bit

LTIR. But once Despres or the other guy, I forget who, Nate Thompson? Does that sound right? comes back they have to make a move before they can activate one of them, and once they're healthy they only have so much time to activate them I believe. I'm not totally sure, but they can't leave them there for the year if they're healthy, that's clearly circumvention.

Out at a company dinner and just saw the score. And the anger on this thread. I am heading back to the bar to have a few cocktails. Need to chill and contemplate becoming a Leafs fan.

Fantasy trade advice ..I have

Booker
Murray
Gurley
Ware
Stewart

Hopkins
Dez
Fitz

Would you trade Ware + Dez for Shady McCoy and Diggs.

Knowing McCoy is out, but not needing Ware, I'd be moving Dez for McCoy to play down the line

Thanks
I didn't know about the injuries
Still puts them in a spot where teams know they're desperate to make these deals though
I'd imagine they won't get the high return for Fowler that they'd really like

I knew it was a longshot,
But I really wanted us to offersheet Lindholm
