To the Flyers to, though -- we can go around all day about this, but if they move Mason, they are a worse team the second that deal is finalized.

That can't be in dispute. You cannot look at what Mason has done with the Flyers and not acknowledge that trading that dude for some third-line forwards and picks doesn't make them a demonstrably worse team the second a deal would go down

I totally agree. I just concede to the fact that we are at best a bubble team right now. And possibly not even that. So why not make this team better if we have at best a quick exit from the first round.

Because it's not that easy.

I'd only expect picks if it involved LA, they have a terrible prospect pool
- ob18

They wouldn't have the room unless they move someone. Even if they put Quick on LTIR eventually when he comes off a move will have to be made. I get the feeling they don't want to deal with overages.

Even so, it's not likely a move that would involve the Flyers.

It was just a Friedman rumor. It was apparently LA reaching out. I wouldn't move Mason until Stolarz gets a dozen NHL games. That's not happening before it's too late for the Kings.

And Stolarz better throw 3 or 4 SOs into the mix.

Gonna do MTL-NYI, then WSH-EDM, as tonight's doubleheader. Really looking forward to that second game -- I forgot about Washington earlier, but I have a lot of respect for the collection of talent on that team. Edmonton can get on squads at home, though

The Islanders have some interesting talent, too. Have wanted to see how Ryan Strome is developing and how some of their other young players look

The Flyers intend to make the playoffs this season. Steve Mason has been a very good to outstanding goalie as their starter for the last 3 and a half seasons. He's had injury issues at times, but by and large has provided high quality goaltending behind some really shallow teams.

Trading him for a second rounder or a couple of second tier prospects doesn't make the Flyers better now, and probably not in the future, either.

For all the love Michal Neuvirth gets, he's never been a full time starter. He's had injury and consistency woes of his own. If Mason is dealt, he the guy who has to carry the ball-and his career high in games played in a season is fewer than Mason has ever played in a full season as a Flyer.

It also means Stolarz or Lyon is your back up goalie. No matter what pedigree they have, they are untested and far from a sure thing if Neuvirth were to get hurt and miss a month.

At the TDL, if a team is willing to pay the price for Mason or Neuvirth, I'd listen. Right now, the only way I'd trade either is if they got a huge return.

Kulemin's hurt for the Isles, so Barzal is in. Curious to see him, too

Man, Montreal is effing fast. They kinda surprise teams with how quickly they get up ice. They were all over the Isles for the first few shifts

They could move #30 he'd be better on the cap for LA, but for now I wouldn't be in a hurry to move either.

Can we ban political memes? This election cycle is too absurd to deal with either of these turds.

Know what is awesome?

When you DVR the game, utilize the auto-extender feature so you dont miss any of it if it goes late, and then watch the replay only to have it stop recording with 7 minutes remaining in the game.

(frank)ing comcast.

I like Mase, but I like Neuwirth more. I know he wasn't pretty in 2 starts this year, but both these guys have been streaky. I just don't see him as a long term #1. And LA only wants him as a rental (which tells you something).
- section32

what it tells you is they have Quick signed for 6 more seasons beyond this for 5.8 so they wouldn't want more than a rental regardless of who it is.

Personally i think Mason is the better goalie and would like to see hi re-signed

No. Even if it was two years ago I'm not moving my starter or his tested back up less than a month into the season. That's Buffalo level management. I couldn't live with that as a fan.

I think he will be. The expansion draft will be tricky, as they'll have to protect a goalie signed past this year, which means you expose Stolarz or have a handshake deal to sign with Mason after the draft, which is dicey.
- jmatchett383

i think there will be better goalies to be had. I think its more likely they lose one of Cousins or Laughton assuming one of them is left unprotected.

Love how the NHL has made every expansion team, out of 67, build the hard way but are handing Vegas a pretty good start. some teams are going to lose pretty good players

I think Weise is more likely. 3rd line still prime vet with size for the West? And under contract 3 more years for a reasonable price? For a new franchise, it makes sense to me short and long term.

It's not possible for the Flyers to be better than that? They've added a few young players who are already making a difference. I think it's premature to label them as having at best, a quick exit from the first round.

Without back reading from page 7 or so, I'm going to guess this is 12+ pages of MJL arguing about that powerplay formation, specifically about some nuance he not only fabricated but refuses to believe it was never said nor implied.

Which reminds me-

Everything is literally terrible.
