You're just seeing two different sides of the same coin. Die hard Flyer fans who take different approaches to how they view sports.

The childish optimism of others or the bitter pessimism of the rest of us.

When we lose or play like poop I like to talk about that. Optimistic people want to ignore it. When they play great or win I have little to say because it's what I expected of them.

If you are basing it on 7 games, the Flyers are in a 3-way tie for the last playoff spot. I don't think that indicates that they'll be "lucky as hell" to make it. I also think a 7-game sample at the beginning of the season where they've had key players suspended/injured is a good measuring stick.

Honesty with the additions and expected bounce back seasons and hoped improvement from some young players I expect them to make the playoffs and will be disappointed if they don't make it

Fear not the end results of the season nor the future of the team, I have already won the cup and have fixed the Flyers depth and defensive issues for many years to come...in NHL 17

My expectations are about the same. Make the playoffs and win a round or as least make it go 7 really tough close games.

And this is me being a fan, not basing it on anything other than hope: I choose to believe that Morin is going to be capable of helping this team somewhere before the trade deadline, and he will help -- not cure -- some of their defensive problems at ES.

I then choose to believe that Morin will be in the lineup and do more to help the team in the role he plays than whichever player whose spot he takes.

Same with Laughton, if he goes down to LHV -- he can be a better player. If he does, he can come back and help push somebody out of the lineup, or be a potential trade chip.

Raffl will be back. MDZ will be back. They made the playoffs last year with Voracek not having the kind of season he could, Couturier missing chunks of the season, with Mason not playing well until late, with little cap space...there's just reasons for optimism, to me

Hell, Matt Read looks like a different player. That's a positive

My expectation is to win the cup, or at the very least compete for it. Every year I have the same expectation.

They have it within themselves to be so much better than what they have shown. So infuriating to see them waste their talent like they do.

at lot can change between now and the end of the season but lets suppose the team stays as is and the players continue to play at the level they are (as in Read looks more like the Matt Read of his first 3 seasons than the last 2)...the Flyers can protect 7 forwards leaving 3 exposed. the no brainers are of course Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Coots. that leaves 2 more spots between Raffl (2 seasons left afte this season), Weise (3 seasons left), Cousins, Laughton and Read (1 season left). who do you protect?

defense is easy - protect Ghost, Manning and Gudas exposing AMAC.

- nastyflyergirl

Easy for the forwards for me also. Raffl and Laughton.

There's a rim on the coin that is fans who enjoy what there is to enjoy while trying to reasonably evaluate what needs to improve.

I base my expectations on the what my teams did last year and the changes made to the team and the teams in their division and conference. Based on that ground rule there is no way to expect a cup win this season. In another season or two sure but this year not so much.

You are fine with these things because youre optimistic. I was born a pessimist. So for me I expect the worst to happen.

I expect them to win the cup. I expect them to lose 1 or 2 players for long stretches of the season. I expect them leave it all out on the ice each and every shift. I expect balls to the walls every second of every game.

If I had a choice, I'd be optimistic. Alas, the choice is not ours to make.

I wonder how long the good matt read will be. I worry he has this spurt and then goes back to last year matt read.

There seem to be a lot of injuries early on for teams. Would Hextall move someone sooner rather than later if a possible playoff team wanted a player to make sure they are good until injured players return.

If we really think the flyers are just a bubble team then I wonder if Hextall is looking at it like that.

I just spent 5 minutes trying to find a 3 sided object that would work in this equation.

Are those people neither optimistic nor pessimistic? I don't even know what you call someone who isn't one or the other. Lucky?

It's tough so far. It's hard to get a grip on what they are right now. I thought the 5 games in 7 nights would be a telling stretch early in the season but two games in and I'm more confused than before it started. They seem unfocused and slightly disorganized. There's surely more talent here than they've shown for extended periods.

I just going to relax and wait until they're pounding through November to see what we really have this season. By then things should be settling down and we'll have a better handle on things.

I suppose no one is safe at the end of the day.

I wouldn't trade Giroux, Voracek, or one of the young guys. Everyone else though....
