Tonight's drinking game:

Take a shot every time Pierre mentions the North Dakota Fighting Sioux now known as the fighting Hawks. Enjoy your hangover.

- RickJames77

I went to UND. I will play this, but I drink every time I see Pierre, up close or far away. I cant listen to his stupid voice on NBCSN, so I have the game muted with the radio broadcast playing.

FYI, props to anyone who can listen to McGuire and not drown themselves in alcohol.

Problem is, it's not like it is one loss and everyone loses their minds. For some of us, this is 2+ seasons of wtf moves and uninspired play. Call it what you want, but it's all too familiar to see this play. Sure they are missing guys. When they come back so they make this team a contender? I would say no.
- dothedougie

My issue is more with the attitude of it's either contender or bust. They're either a cup contender, or they're the worst team in the league. There are no grey areas, it's black or white. All this talk of mediocrity... just imagine being a Maple Leafs fan.

I think a lot of us have been fans for well more than 2+ seasons and the team has been pretty good for almost the entire time under Julien... and now they've BARELY missed the playoff the last two seasons. They're not that bad, they're just not as good as they were from like 09-13.

Mediocrity is the worst place to be in the NHL. That's the problem with the last two seasons and MAY be happening again this season. If we committed to the fact that we were not contenders around the trade deadline a couple of seasons ago we could have sold pieces and just grabbed picks.

PLUS not trade a 3rd for Rinaldo and a 2+3+4+5 for Stemp and Liles which could have been used to make an offer sheet this past offseason.

I'm beating a dead horse at this point but watching these games is brutal as a fan and seems like watching replays from the last couple seasons. At least some of the kids are playing this season. Although I question how well they will develop on this team at this point.

We need McAvoy to be ready as a player in the NHL and fast!

Yup, brutal decisions to half ass trying to be competitive. If you have a very young team and youre rebuilding, sure just missing the playoffs is probably a good spot, when youre in the position this team is in, its (frank)in awful.

I think Liles is a fine acquisition. Stemp played really well and would have liked to keep him actually. But I think Liles is a good number 4 or 5 and has some offensive upside. And is cheap

Yeah, they definitely made some questionable moves. But in Sweeney's defense, it was the players that choked. They had a team good enough to make the playoffs and they just didn't perform. But yes, it would have been nice to have those assets since things didn't work out.

The defense is super rough... but I think it's being exacerbated by the fact they can't get enough sustained pressure. It felt like they had some more offensive zone time tonight, but it still feels like they're chasing the puck back to their zone a lot.

I know he have up 5 goals but I thought McIntyre looked pretty good. I thought it was really only that one goal that banked off his back where he looked bad.

I thought Liles was pretty good last year when they picked him up, but I've thought he's looked pretty awful this season. McQuaid had looked pretty rough, and even Krug doesn't look 100% right now. Carlo has probably been the lone bright spot back there.

Both players exceeded expectations when they got here sure. And for a contending team they are the types of moves that put you over the top.

They are the type of players we acquired when we won the Cup, like Kelly and Pevs type depth.

The only problem is that we acquired them to try to just get into the playoffs and maybe win a round if we got lucky.

They knew the back end was rough last season they watched the same games as us, so you trade away the same picks you need to sign anyone of the half dozen RFA defenseman that would have made us waaay better? You knew you wanted to maybe offer sheet Trouba this offseason, but didn't know you might want to offer sheet him a couple months before that?

Asset mismanagement AND lack of perspective on your teams true ceiling and potential.

I've been saying it for two seasons and seven games now, this is how mediocre teams stay in a 50/50 make the playoffs miss the playoffs hell for a decade. You need top ten picks and better in the league now, and usually you need a few.

You may be right, but we were never going to acquire Trouba with an offer sheet that wasn't maxed out. And he isn't worth 4 1sts. So despite the speculation, we would not have offer sheeted.

Plus I'm sick of these rfa punks and their demands. Lindholm is the same scenario. I read that they are 700k off. Sign a one year deal while the ducks have cap trouble. Up your worth and then sign a more expensive deal next season. Gaudreau, lindholm, trouba, etc. All punks. Getting paid to play a game. And they're worried about 10% here or there on the contracts when they just got out of high school. It's cause they know they will be a bust in a year or two half the time.

And what you're saying for two years is crap. We have one of the best prospect pools and a core that will still be in their prime in the next few years when those kids are ready. You don't sell off everyone half decent for picks when you have 10 picks on the first two rounds already.

Just get rid of jimmy Hayes.

The horse has been dead for a while, which is why the sarcasm sounds a little more like despair. Horrible moves, lackluster play, and mid first round picks are not things to get excited about.

Wasnt he coming off a 19 goal season with the panthers? I guess there is a silver lining because with Subban playing so bad, Vegas might reconsider selecting him in the expansion draft and take Hayes instead.

I don't know. I originally liked the trade too. I would take Smith back in a second.

I second this. I liked the trade in the beginning too. Looks like the Panthers are the clear winner there. Was nice shedding Savard's contract for convenience, but we got a lesser player back for sure.

Phone hearing for Pastrnak's hit... kind of crazy. If he gets suspended it would be absolutely ridiculous with them letting the Kulikov hit on Voracek go the other night.

He may have made contact with the head, but he didn't leave his feet, and I think it was more so because Girardi went to lean down to put the puck on the ice after he was trying to catch it.
