i have played there actually... a few times... but that was way back when the band first started and we were still doing the acoustic thing...i don't think our current lineup would even fit on that stage now... nice place, i liked it there

Where was the place you would have played in that area, say 2 years ago or so... I am trying to remember the name of the bar. I know I have been there.

Wouldn't hurt

Problem is, he looks really uncomfortable in the net. That needs to get sorted out first.

I don't know if it's Babcock asking him to playing way out on the blue ice, different team in front of him (maybe he doesn't trust that D will take the shooter, take away backdoor, etc.), or injury still having an effect on movement, but he doesn't visually look at all like he did in Anaheim.

I agree with exception to the wish/thought that the Leafs will play better in front of him between game 10-20.
To make that happen, you need to bring in 2 new D-men.

- MaximusAurelius

i know i know... you want to trade all the experience away for d men

i cant say i agree... but to each their own

I wont worry until at least game 20... if he is still giving up goals once the leafs are playing better in front of him defensively then that will be cause for concern.

but between turnovers and blown coverage i have a hard time pinning it all on him

- Dozzer

Oh I don't think you can watch the comedy in the Leafs end and then put it *all* on Andersen.

That too. Can't have much confidence in the team in front of him, at least defensively.

They haven't been Carlyle era bad, but there's something to be said for facing tons of shots from the outside vs. the grade A chances he's get lit up on now.

While the guy has to find a way to make a big save here and there, there were some ridiculous bar down, top cheese poop going on again last night that he had zero chance on.

It might affect his decision making with his body though. Instead of staying tall and blocking a shot with his shrugged shoulder, he's crouching down and fanning at a high shot.

I don't know if that's it exactly, but I think any injury on a goalie will affect his play, which could trigger errand behaviour elsewhere as compensation.

- gravyface

I certainly hope he gets his act together.

oh he has looked shaky.. but in fairness... how can you expect a goalie to settle when his D cant control the shooting lanes and where the puck is going to be coming from?

typically while being screened.

the leafs desperately need to get better in their own end.. both with their breakouts and coverage

That's the thing. Bernier and Reimer played behind the same D, arguably worse, and they looked better than what Freddy has so far.
- walshyleafsfan

I think people have short and/or selective memories with our goaltending. Reimer and especially Bernier were given long leashes, more than a year and consistently poop the bed. 2 bad goals a game was the norm and with Bernier, the early back breaker.

Andersen has not looked good, except for maybe a few minutes here or there and even with defensive gaffes, a number one goalie should be able to bail out his teammates every now and then.

Having said that, the defence in front of him has been absolutely horrible......and not just the usual suspects. EVERYBODY. Guys picking cherries in front of him constantly uncovered, multiple odd man rushes against every period and let's face it, there have been some wicked shots that not many tenders would have stopped. He has been better than this consistently in the past though and it's for that reason, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and time to recapture his game.....for now.

That's my piece.

I'm still going to go with nerves and trying too hard.

It just looks like he isn't calm and focused it looks like he is panicky and riding an adrenaline dump

Exactly. Going from that kind of team to this poop show is a huge adjustment for a goalie. The injury snd missing camp didn't help either.

Yeah, they do.

I hope the management group is smarter than I am though because I can't see a way to get significant defensive improvements without giving up one of the big 3.

... We sound very much like Oilers fans from about 3 or 4 years ago. Defense a shambles, goaltending sucks, team sucks, but the only real trade chips are guys who are untouchable.

Many of us agreed.

... but I think we hoped we could have team that we would cheer for to win. It is starting to look like this year will be a lot like last year, except Matthews and Nylander

I expected to be competitive and I also expected that the new tender the Leafs picked up would make a few stops. We can complain about the D all you want, but tenders have to bail out the D too.. I hope he figures it out soon.

I can't remember.

I was a Reimer guy. I fought this same battle to a lesser extent, against the Bernier sympathizers. I never thought Reimer was a "good" starter, but if we look at goalies over the last 10 years, I think he was the best starter we had.

- Aetherial

I'd trade Andersen for Reimer right now.

It was a simpler name, and I may be off saying they are in the same area. I think it was downtown though. I'll try to find it if it is even still there.

I might be thinking of The Reservoir Lounge?

If you told me before the season started that we would have 5 points in our first 6 games it wouldn't have been a surprise.

The team defense will slowly tighten up over the next 30 games and it will make a remarkable difference to our goal tending.

Matthews has the NHL scoring lead

The way he looks out there, I can see him getting tired throughout the season, but I don't see him hitting a confidence rut or anything like that... he looks pretty composed out there and not too flashy. Gonna be interesting to see if he can keep it up.
