There was no real cap relief to a buy out for Burr. If they didn't see value for him to be here they could have assigned him to Utica.... which may wind up being done if they don't see value on the roster. He's not what he was but he has other aspects that they believe they need.
Larson isn't going anywhere unless traded he may sit games but he's got the year to show his worth. Players won't come here in the future from other leagues if they don't get the opportunity or time to show they can play. Canucks need that sort of option as they try to find players to fill holes. - Nuck4U

the point is: it's different for every player. You can't make broad claims like players need to learn how to score at the NHL level by playing here first or whatever. Some guys just have different learning/developmental curves, so learning to dominate at the AHL level is great for their development (as codes mentioned, there are many, many examples of this: Marty St.Louis and Tyler JHohnson are the ones that come to mind for me). Is is right for JV? Well we haven't tried it much, so maybe it's worth a shot. - neem55
That's not what I said ... go back read the posts....
But we haven't tried JV here enough yet plus he's the best option to be in the line up righ now so any talk of sending down is premature.
Plus just because he's starting with Guance doesn't mean WD will keep him there it all depends on how the boys are playing. |

Right. Why JV is playing NHL minutes and Shink is not cause he doesn't have those aspects to his game. Offense gets developed at the NHL level either you learn to do or not .... many power forwards like Stewart etc. don't do it and stay in defensive roles only. JV may show he can do more with games ahead or not and get bumped by other players and be sent to AHL. Making that argument now is premature

Before JVs game was hit attack , shoot crash the net. If they got in a scrum his linemates would mix it up and a bunch of 20 year olds would be scrapping.
Welcome to the NHL where the guy you will be fighting is 6'4 220 lbs and 28 years old.
Welcome to the Vancouver Canucks where if you get in a fight or scrum , don't expect any support. |

Scoring in the A doesn't translate over to scoring in the NHL... players will have to learn that aspect playing NHL mintutes.... AHL play will keep you relevant so you can get that opportunity to try to figure that out on a call up and show it.
If JV has no opportunity to learn it here then yeah he will have to go to the AHL to get it. But if you can provide another team value then scoring can be learned at the NHL level.
Don't know if there is an assumption that JV can't score so he needs to learn that and prove it at the AHL before given a chance again in the NHL which is a whole other tact. |

Don't worry it seems the plan is call up Labate after suspension on road trip and drop off JV in Utica where he can stay there until Boeser makes the team so he can ride shot gun like Lucic on Mcdavid and pot the occasional rebound or set up... |

I think it goes back to Basics with Virtanen. Scoring isn't everything in the NHL. Points aren't everything in the NHL. Before Jake worries about points/goals, he needs to develop his overall game and be consistent. Everyone heard him before the season started, he knows what he has to do, and he has failed to prove everyone wrong (so far). |

umm there's 3 million in cap relief, not sure what you mean. we'd be paying 1/3rd of his salary this year and next... that's how it works I'm fairly certain. In other words from 4.5 million this to 1.5 this year and next. We need more pKer's? Really? Gaunce does it, JV does it Horvat... seems the list goes on.
As for Larsson, he's already got NHL games under his belt. He's going to get some more games, but giving him the whole year is a bit of a overstatement. He's got some wiggle room though, you're right about that. Saying he isn't going anywhere is nice to say, but if Stecher outplays him he'll be on waivers within a month if he keeps playing poorly. I think the tryamkin situation is much more delicate than the Larsson. Larsson's a fringe player getting a second chance and is owed nothing. |

We do have an asset that could bring back a true second line player , he is injured tonight, and yes I know there would be a hole.
I am really hoping Stecher has a good showing and forces Canucks to consider keeping him. - VANTEL
I am honestly not sure who you mean as we have a few injuries. Tanev? Seems as the only defenceman in his prime and excelling at his position, you would be right he is an asset. Waive bye-bye to any lingering playoff dreams if he gets traded though, make no mistake:he's the best we've got. |

Hmmm... so if that is totally true why is WD playing him at all...? It's not like he doesn't have options...
But if his game isn't good enough then he will get sent down to the A to learn it there. It may happen sooner then later or not at all depends on what he shows with the minutes he gets.

Please tell me: how is 59 games premature? I'm not saying play a season in Utica, I'm not thinking anyone here is. More like 20-25 to develop consistency and get back into shape. I'm a big fan of his, so I hope either way he turns the corner. The AHL is there for a reason and going down there at age 20 for a stint is not the worst thing that can happen to a kid that's been handed a lot over the last few years. |
