Criticism isn't harsh, it's just realistic. Most fans could see that, it's the 4-0 start that caught them by surprise.
If you thought this team was a contender going in, shame on you. The team is shallow, and not all that skilled. Also, all of their best scorers are pretty old.
I'm just calling it as most see it.
This is a website for pretty devout fans. Unfortunately, devout can mean blind. The team sucks, and likely will for a few years. That doesn't stop us from cheering for them, it just means we understand their limitations going in.
In this case, absolute best is likely 95 points.....bottom out around 70 points. We all wish it was different, just not likely. In a few years, we'll be on the upswing again. - golfingsince
Okay so can I borrow your crystal ball I want to pick some lotto numbers lol.
Look not on a high or low about the team. They are improving and have a chance to land in a playoff spot or do well enough in the pacific.
This team doesn't have a high end reliable go to goal scorer ... no... it's a team of two way forwards. Some more skilled at offense then others but not the guy. Sedins have their moments but are not top end stand outs anymore.
Defense is a bunch of above average guys where some have offensive capabilities but no stud 1D to ride on.
Goaltending good to great but not the best goalie.
Does this mean they suck... maybe if they don't play well or have a bunch of injuries. They do have balance and can play an alll around team game. The expectation is they would take leads and hold the fort but the surprise was the comebacks especially down 3 goals so that isn't sustainable if they want to win.
By saying the above is being blind is in tune with being harsh and critical. |

Sure, use my crystal ball.
Your lotto numbers are as useless as mine.
The team is not built on above average D. It's built on average D at best, based on assignment compared to other teams. Most would say well below average. See, if you don't have a true #1D then you generally need two #1B D to compensate......we don't have that. We also lack a proven 2nd pairing so you can see where i'm coming from.
You're right, we do lack top end scoring talent.....and our top scorers aren't really defensive standouts so we lack there as well. We also don't have proven secondary scoring.
Our goaltending is solid, yet not spectacular which is what is needed when you don't have great goal scoring or elite D.
Therefore, without saying it.....you've pretty much summed it up. We are mediocre at best. Unless we develop a bunch of youth this season we are destined for a bottom seeding.....or far more likely missing the playoffs.
It's not unexpected, it is what it is. We're likely a non-playoff team with a few good prospects. It could be awhile before we make the dance regularly. |

We only talk optimism here Vantel. - Codes1087
Yup you aren the most optimistic .... like your posts in opposing team sites ... killer
Tuesday @ 12:05 PM ET
I think the Sens are really underestimated by a lot of folks, they've got a decent team, not great but good. Should be a close game if the Canucks can continue to be on the right side of the puck defensively. Sunday the weren't against Anaheim and it cost them.
- LeftCoaster
I think the sens are still just adjusting to a new coach with a new system. I don't see them being mediocre much longer. I think tonight they will break out tonight with a 5-2 OTT win. Canucks are going to come back to reality tonight.

So considering Codes called the Ottawa win and Lefty suggested we needed to play mistake free hockey I'd say they were more accurate than blind optimism? no?

I guess Dallas and Ducks D must suck cause they took Bieksa and Hammer to play top end minutes after they weren't considered effective over what we have here.
But I didn't know being an average team maeans they suck or are bottom 5 what you said before.
This team's ceiling is unknown but they got a chance to make some noise it's just calling them the worst or bottom of the league is not an accurate reflection of where they are at... it could happen given factors like injury but to expect it is selling them short |

Very good post here golfing. Very accurate how the majority see it. Nuck4U seems like the Nucks' version of RogerRoeper. Makes Don look fairly balanced.
Everything reminds me so much of the Leafs for the last decade. Misguided optimism from fans, trading draft picks away trying to delay the inevitable, hot starts to the season being attributed to "good teams don't wake up till game 20" and sliding down the standings after winning the October Cup, dismissing advanced stats only to then use them when the team scores well with them, every fan of other teams have to be trolls, rushing prospects like Virtanen to the big league when they are clearly not ready, poor poor players being defended until traded away or waived then the fan base turns on them.
You can also see it with every shiny new toy like Tree, Etem, Granlund, Nilsson, Gudbranson etc. Looks of hype before a games played, then wishing they get traded/waived.
The very few fans that can see it for what it is and speak up against the team are accused of being depressed and told to "move away from the ledge", or not being a fan. Leafs had the same.
The two teams and their fans are in very similar situations (Leafs just a tad further along).
I think both teams will be propping up the league for the foreseeable future. |

This is going to be a long season ,not only talent wise but fan wise. Every goal , period , win , loss I guess we can expect this nonsense of I ama fan, doom and gloom , and the phrase that you will hear most often in Vancouver"I told you so "
The fans are going to be more aganozing than the actual hockey. Congrats to all the expert GM wannabes.
I haven't heard one person on here say this team is a cup contender ,so letit be known we will listen to this numbing back and forth about if we are bad or if we are medium.
I personally don't intend to sit back and watch an 82 game schedule of Burrows Sbisa and no contact ,no drive to the net hockey .
If you want change don't sit and female dog that means you care. Show your disinterest. That will scare the fuk out of ownership.
Once again Canucks are bringing back a no hit soft whimpy team. Like I said I am not going to sit through 82 games of same old crap.
Put me in the bad fan column |

It's happening. Ticket sales are way down. Season ticket holders way down.
Owners and team management will equate it to lack of wins but the real reason is a lack of excitement and team identity. |

Lefty and i are realistic. Apart from our actual score predictions we were right. Stop living in a fantasy world. Every thing is an excuse with you on how the canucks are an elite team but always fsulter to injuries or execution. Guess what bud. They are far from perfect and probably still in touch to MAYBE land a playoff spot. Get off your high horse |

Best possible scenario that could happen. IMO.
I was thinking the exact same thing. This team does not have an identity.
They are not fast and exciting. They are not big and strong.
We are sitting here waiting for contracts to expire.
Fans talking about JV being disappointing are stupid. He is a lone 20 year old kid being told by the fan base to go out and be the team bruiser .
I would rather lose in a hurry for high draft spots than sit back and watch contracts expire. May as well make big trades now while contracts have value. |

True; The apathy which started to set in last year, that's the way to get the teams attention. Then it becomes everyone's problem.

Could not agree more. FA must be just seething mad seeing soo many empty seats. Reality of a hybrid rebuild. What more does he need to see before he faces reality.

I'm not writing them off, but last night was a shlt game. Ottawa wasn't exactly bringing the excitement either. Boring boring hockey. |
