I wasn't saying that the Trouba situation is the same. Just pointing out that teams have options if they're looking for help at D.

I'm not sure, but I would think that an offer sheet at this point in the year also doesn't work the same way. Think back to the Calgary ROR offer sheet. For whatever reason, he would have had to go through waivers (can't remember why) so maybe now that the season has started that has something to do with it. I could also be completely wrong about how that works as well. It's just something I remember them saying back when that happened.

Because he played professional hockey not in the NHL during the NHL season. Everyone else came back from Europe, but he stayed in the KHL for a few more games after the season started because he still didn't have a contract.

No, I saw it. My reading comprehension is just fine. But again, that's not super easy. My guess would be Murray hasn't just sat around saying, "Oh look, Lindholm still hasn't been signed yet" and then done nothing in regards to it. A good GM calls and kicks the tires on things. I would imagine that Anaheim's asking price is high. And like other people have mentioned, the offer sheet thing really doesn't happen that often, mostly because in order to get someone to sign one you don't think the other team would match, you have to grossly overpay the player in the first place. An offer sheet isn't free. There's consequences and maybe the GMs don't want to give up the assets that would end up going back the other way.

It also literally isn't free. As in it costs a ton of money just to prepare all the paperwork. Normally when a team is signing a guy to a contract they just eat the cost, because he's definitely signing, unless his name is Michael Nylander http://old.seattletimes.c...rts/2003773952_nhl04.html or Jeff Zatkoff. But why would a team do another teams, very expensive, paperwork for them? That's part of the reason why teams don't use the offer sheet. They're -the teams- cheap. Gollysano never would've went for it. I understand it's a bit different now with Uncle Terry making it rain all over the place, but it's a very real issue with a bunch of teams. Plus not having the cap space to do it.

Also, don't bother with trying to counter the whole "we can just move Franson and Gorges. Worse contracts get moved all the time!" thing, he's set in his ways.

The chances of any one person winning the lottery are real good, the chances of you winning the lottery are really, really bad. That's what a lot of people don't realize is that just because things happen all the time, and moving bad contracts don't, doesn't mean they will happen to you.

Teams can only go over the cap for LTIR. LTIR doesn't remove the cap hit, very simplistically it just allows the team to go over the cap for the amount of the cap hit. There's a little more to it than that, but that's the gist.

They can not go over for any other reason. Remember when the Devils had Kovalchuk? There were a few games that because of injuries they couldn't even dress 18 skaters because they had no cap space.
