It's funny how it almost gets lost in the shuffle that Shea Weber is actually on this team.

If he were traded for anyone other than PK Subban (or Carey Price), all that would be mentioned would be how great of a deal it was to get a guy of Weber's caliber (or "calibre" for Canadian folks) on the team.

I don't think it was as terrible of a trade as some people, especially those in the #fancystats community think it is, but it definitely was not a good trade, especially long-term.

Yeah, I agree.

It's not like they got back chopped liver for Subban, but it was a less than good trade.

Do they complain more about having Weber or about losing Subban?

I can tell you being from Canada and being around Habs fans, there was an early shock much like the Richards and Carter trades but now most that I talk to love it. There really is no middle group. It's either they love it or they hate it. In terms of being a total package player I still take Shea Weber right now but if you are building for the long term, Yes PK Subban is the better choice.

I think a lot has to do with the good start they've had. There's still a lot of press about the trade in Canada. I'm sure it was discussed, but a disgruntled fan took out a full page add in the Montreal gazette to slam the team for the trade. It was epic and the trade is clearly polarizing to their fan base.

It would be like if Hextall had traded Giroux for Carter this summer.

Exactly.

I doubt many of us would be like "WE GOT CARTER!!! PARADE'S COMING!"

The reaction would be far more about what we gave up versus what we got back.

But all would be forgiven after we flipped him for Voracek and #8 overall.

I don't think it's as bad of a trade as some make it out to be, and I also think the talk of Weber's decline, is comical. I just think from an age standpoint, and that personality which I still don't get, seemed to factor in for Montreal, made parts of the trade puzzling.

I hope Lyubimov gets enough ice time to show he should stay in the lineup when Weise come back on Thursday. He can definitely kill penalties based on the preseason, the coach just needs to give him a chance to do it in a real game.
- Feanor

From his limited ice time I think he's better then Vdv. He's faster and can kill penalties just as good if not better then Vdv. And looks like he can offer a little more offense.
