hunwick and marincin are better at playing hockey than all on here as well.
ban anyone criticizing their bad defensive play

- MaximusAurelius

I actually doubt this.

Are you suggesting that preparing for the possibility that a team which has been among the league's best for 5 or so years might score a goal against your young and inexperienced team would be an unintelligent play?
- BetterCallSaul

why not save the challenge for a potential 4-5 goal before end of regulation then?
there was 0 chance that challenge would have any success of being accepted, so why throw away the opportunity to make any proper use of the challenge?

That's okay, doesn't mean you can't wonder why he does certain things and be curious if there's a better decision to be made

Don't know. Maybe that was the momentum stopping move you were suggesting earlier. It acted as an extended time out. It didn't work in this circumstance, doesn't mean it was a bad decision.

I used to think that...

... then I saw Hunwick and Polak out against Kane, Toews, Hossa etc with the empty net.

I have nothing against Babcock obviously and think he's one of the top coaches in the league.
I just feel he needs to help the young unexperienced team and don't think he's using the time-out as a tool to do so.
Game vs Winnipeg the same; Leafs instead of slowing down pace in the last few minutes while still leading, were going with Jets in the high tempo..

It's quite telling as well that none of the guys on the team (or at least the ones being played by Babcock) didn't have the hockey intelligence to slow down and kill the game..
(for example I remember Rielly flying out the d-zone in the Wpg game as if it were the Leafs needing to score the tying goal).

I do feel as well that Marner (being one of best players on the Leafs these first few games) should have been used more in critical situations at end of these games and in general he should play with different linemates that can actually follow his play.
I never thought I was going to say this, but Lupul would have been a great linemate for Marner.

i think its pretty safe to assume that babcock knows how to coach better than all of us collectively
- Dozzer

I don't know man.... do you read what those posters from Buffalo pointed out today!

Babcock wasn't smart enough to pick Buffalo over Toronto?

He doesn't have Sparks to throw out there right now, so this is the best he can do.

I don't like Gardiner's defensive abilities, but yesterday the guy deserved an assist on that JVR goal. Not sure why he didn't get it?

when are you guys going to realize that the outcomes of these games is very much you should expect from a team this age?
- Dozzer

the guys in here are just disappointed... fortunately we don't the have "esteemed" Toronto hockey media stepping up with similar comments - its great with Berger obliterated in public (which was wonderful) and Simmons becoming increasingly a non-factor... the fan base or at least a significant portion of it that used to get their "opinions" from those two and their like ... are spewing the same crap.

here's what to absolutely love about the start to this season

1) rookies look damn good - although a little inconsistent (which is to be expected) - I think the Leafs genuinely have three legitimate stars in the making up front

2) Marlies are doing well without Nylander, Hyman (who in my opinion has looked great) and Brown

3) the team doesn't start playing half way through the game - I think they have been each game from the get go

4) they aren't giving up the spirit sucking bs goals that were Bernier's trade-mark

5) the big question marks are around the veterans

The Leafs have 5 points out of 5 games, and won't lose every game going forward when they are leading in the third - which would have them in the 85+ range. Sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

Nah, no need to watch. Just blame Gardner and let two guys get right up in your goalies grill. Wash, rinse, repeat...
