The "bang for your buck" and "overall value" categories are where the survey goes off the rails. They are weighed far too heavily in the formula used here.

Take it with a grain of salt. But, the hockey fans in the Southeast deserve good value, good entertainment and some good press.

Absolutely. I'm not one of these Canadians that takes it personally that there is hockey in the Sunbelt... I wish those franchises well.

This just seemed such an overstatement, is all.

Totally. For the average fan in most cities Hockey is unaffordable, from what i see here and there prices are pretty damn good for Panthers games, so I believe it.

If the survey was for " most successful" or " best run" they barely qualify.

Anyone notice there is not one comment from a Panther fan?

I was simply making an observation that two pages of comments and not one from a fan of the team.
I love the tough keyboard cowboy act you're throwing down though. Keep it up.

That's a keyboard cowboy?
Cool.
Perhaps you're confusing me with the fella who wants to punch the blogger?

We read it. Sometimes NO need to comment. You wanna defend the douchebag from NY's comment? Would you rather read that? He should be banned from the site.

Plenty of reasonable criticisms in comments too. Let's be honest, Florida fans don't chime in because there is really nothing to say when you point out their attendance still sucks despite the team playing well.

"In a group of twenty five 8-13yr olds in the Florida area, the Panthers rank "the bestest and favouritest."

haha, nice try

It's old and tired. They're drawing "ok" nothing more so far. They'll be fine worry about yourself.

Saying something is old and tired doesn't change it being true. Florida has the second lowest announced attendance in the league. And that's with ticket prices set far lower than ideal in order to boost attendance high enough to continue receiving revenue sharing.

If you don't like Florida's problems being pointed out, I suggest you get mad with the supposed fans out there who aren't actually going to games. They're the ones responsible for the numbers, not those of us who talk about it. Pretending a problem doesn't exist just because you are tired of the problem being discussed is just silly.

If you don't like people because they talk about things you want to ignore, you might want to avoid the internet. This isn't some dedicated safe space for over-sensitive Panthers fans, it's somewhere for everyone to talk hockey at the NHL. "Mind your business"??

Lemieux > Gretzky.

I don't care how many points Gretz put up during his career -- he was never plagued with injuries nor did he miss 3 prime years battling a critical disease and then come back to finish 2nd in Hart voting. Mario was a beast and the greatest offensive player of all-time.

Best player? Orr may have something to say about that...

I'm all happy that Florida has turned everything around. And I could not be any happier for Roberto Luongo.

Now can you please tell me how is the attendance doing there? There is absolutely no reason that attendance figures should still be low. After the season the Panthers had last year I would expect a huge increase in season ticket sales and more bums in the seats. Nashville proved me wrong. That is a great success story.

But if you are still drawing only 8000 fans then one still has to question the long term success for this team.

Like I said I hope it works well down there.

The first 20+ years of suckage > 2 years of not sucking. The key word there is the first 20+ years. It would be one thing if they were good the first 10 years and sucked the next 10+, then when they have a little turn around people can say "hey look, reminds of the old Panthers, let's go relive that again". There is none of that, unlike a lot of other teams that have had sustained success to fall back on in hard times.
You have to look at teams' images, that's what motivates people to attend their games in markets outside of Canada. What is the Panthers' image? <-- Playing terrible hockey. That's not going to get people to go to games, that's going to do the opposite. It's going to take more than 2 years of being decent to turn that around.

Very well said but these azzbag trolls don't understand the sports business they just like to constantly come in here and spew the same shyt because they have nothing else to do and are too stupid to come up with anything new. It's either the tool who comes in here every new blog and says he need Dan to unblock him on twitter or the same aholes talking about attendance. The Cats are playing well without 2 of their stars and still forming chemistry as a team. They signed all their best players and will be good for a while. Slowly but surely tha fans will come back because they'll be winning...and winning a lot.

No I think it's more of the fact that we don't care what other people think, really. At least that's where I'm at with it.

How ironic that a NY guy is talking about sewage. I went to NY once and never again. This guy belongs there...the armpit of America. I had to shower every 5 minutes just from walking out my hotel.

Here's a way to look at it... through our first four games last season we were averaging just over 11,000 people per game. This season through the same first four games, we're averaging over 15,000. Let's take into consideration that the BB&T Center holds well over 19,000 people, way more than most NHL arenas typically hold due to it being a "one stop" shop for sporting events, concerts, monster trucks shows, and everything in between. Knowing this, and considering the 20 years of not being relevant coupled with the fact that the arena is located in the sparsely populated Western Broward County Area, I think we're doing alright.
