I believe Hextall has expressed if not outright said that this is not a rebuilding team.

We are not trading Giroux lets just drop it.

Have to head out for the day, but just a bit of a thought. Lets not all go crazy, and I am curious what the take of some might be on here.

They just wont get much because so few teams would be in the market and be able to swallow that cap hit, not to mention Giroux NTC. Ottawa got Chiasson, a 2nd plus a couple poopty prospects for a 31 yoa Spezza.

I like that much better than Streit. IIRC, Manning paired well with Ghost when he first came up, hopefully he can be a steadying influence for the kid.

Looks like a lot of the same problems they've had for years now. Not enough skill up front, lack of creativity five on five and a predictable power play.

Not sure what the other pairings are. I didn't think Streit was the issue for him but I guess the coaching staff wants to change it up. You could say this is a more defensive partner for Provy but I haven't seen any defensmen willing to jump up in the play as much as Manning has, ghost included.

I think it's clear Manning is here to stay if everyone is healthy. He's looked good

I've been very accurate with my forecasting so far actually. I know Provy will snap out, I said many times I thought Konecny was ready, said id rather have Manning in than Schultz and AMac, hated PEB as 3C, wasn't a fan of the Weise signing, have always been a Read supporter and thought he would improve this year, knew Jake would snap back, Coots would keep moving forward.

Tbh I look like a genius. Except more handsome.

Streit has been a sloppy mess. The only problem is Manning is more aggressive than Streit and also prone to d mistakes. But he has actually been winning his pinches and aggressive plays this year.

So do I. But he just needs to throw the ball away quicker or slide or....errr wrong guy. Konecny needs to learn to take a hit better, or better yet, put himself into positions where he doesn't take the hit at all with his elite skating and hands. He needs to watch tape of Giroux and Kane and Gaudreau on loop. Giroux is absolutely more physical than the other two by a lot, but he doesn't really take hits. Being a gritty small player doesn't mean you can't dish out hits or battle in front or down low, but you cannot take hits with frequency. Konecny will learn to put himself in better positions.

But also it's a respect factor. When guys start closing in on TK and he just embarrasses them with speed bursts and dangles or deft passing, suddenly the opposition will hesitate to get so close.

I do see that willingness to go to the tough areas in him, you're absolutely right though that he will have to learn how to roll out of precarious situations with his creativity/speed. Use that #ELITE playmaking ability, son.

They are still rebuilding. That back end in particular.

Until that is fixed I dont see the need for fury. They are what they are, at the very least I am somewhat excited to see youth play instead of LeCavalier, Umberger.

I agree, they are what they are, which is a playoff team.

I will say though, do hope Hextall is exploring Trouba. Lets get real and realise the back end is a pile of turd minus some unknown in the kids and a couple of guys that are maybe #4 d-men on elite teams.

Simmonds, Konecny, Provorov and Ghost aside I would explore if a deal could be made.

He's working through it but I've cringed every time an opposing player goes to tag him along the boards. Does that ducking thing which you can get away with playing with other teenagers but won't protect you in the show.

Also, hearing rookies like Konecny say how wild is it to be playing against guys he grew up watching is so strange. Especially when he mentions guys who have only been in the league seven seasons.

Perhaps when no one is suspended and everyone is healthy, right now, it's mediocre at best. Streit is an aging one dimensional player, Schultz, Manning and AMac are generic 3rd pair guys, Ghost is fighting the dreaded soph slump and Provrov is being asked to do too much for a 19 year old rookie
